Hey all.. So me and the fellas have really been getting into wake boarding lately, and everytime we go we end up having three different boards on the boat. None of the boards fit in the ski locker in the floor. This causes a room issue. I dont want to spend money on a tower, so I was thinking about mounting a small rack to this bar toward the stern of the boat just for the boards and make it removable. \





Just wondering how it would look.. or if youve ever seen this done..

I've never seen that done before, but I personally think you are on to something. Besides, who cares what anyone else thinks as long as your happy with it. One potential concern I would have would be stress on the mounting areas. I know the rack and boards won't be adding a lot of weight to those bars, but you still may want to look under there and see how they are mounted. Given their location, they may not have been designed for much weight. Another potential concern is most wakeboard racks I have seen are designed to mount on 1.5" or greater tubing. Make sure your racks are capable of mounting to this bar.

Good idea, but I would be afraid of doing that...it's not just the weight that's an issue, but the forces created by those boards in the wind as you are motoring across the lake. I am thinking you will wind up screwing up that handle or worse - where it mounts.

Have the same concerns as above. The main thing is the mounting size on the small rail vs. standard tower mounts.


Why don't you guys just share the same board?

Agreed on the mounting size. Any wakeboard rack I've ever seen is made for mounting to a wakeboard tower with a WAY bigger diameter.

Good idea, just not sure it will work. I hate to be the one to break this to you, but if you and your buddies get into wakeboarding enough to each have your own board and not wanting to ride anyone else's board then you are a half-step away from slapping a tower on that boat anyway. Might as well go with it!

It can be done, saw it on a cruiser on Possum Kingdom, the guy had a ss plate made with 2 1" clamps welded on. Then he removed the bolted on 1-1/2" clamps off the rack plate and bolted it to the plate he had made. They used it to carry surf boards.

Wow.. thanks for the quick replies. As far as why we use different boards, I weigh in at 290 on a good day. I ride a 144 (big board), my friends all ride the other one- a 138. I cant get up on the 138 and they dont like the 144 bc of its size.. and we ride doubles. Reinforcing the bar underneath would be no problem at all, but Im also concerned about the strength of that hand bar in rough water (bending and such). I would love to buy a tower, but I just cant justify spending that much right now.. With the right materials I think I could get this set up for around 300 dollars.

Jole, thanks for the link. Thats exactly what I was trying to find. This would work great but I would have to modify the bimini top. It does not have the bars going down to stabilize it.. only straps. I can try to get pictures in sometime today.


Thanks for all the input. Any other ideas like Jole provided would be greatly appreciated.

I think that bar would be plenty sturdy for what you're doing.

I bought the rack.. We will see how it goes. The rack will clamp right on to that bar. Ill post pics when I get it.
