Our move to a cruiser is inevitable...at some point.

We have kids, so we can only assume that once the sun goes down and dinner is done, we will probably keep a couple board games on the boat and watch movies. Our lake isnt huge (about 30K surface acres of water) and there are only a couple restaurants/bars to visit...not like many of you that have several places to visit and explore.

So, when on the hook, or at the slip....what do you do?

Well...movies, drinks, portable gaming systems (iPad, Nintendo DS, PSP, etc...) and if we have friends with us...more drinking and card playing! Best of all is the quiet time just before falling asleep.

We have a 6 year old who is real hyper! He stays up past his normal bedtime on the boat since its still light out. We try to have him watch a movie in the cabin to settle down...while we are up topside with friends talking or reading a magazine. I try not to let him bring his DS on the boat as its away time for all of us. We've spent a few nights in a slip..but like spending the night on the hook a lot more. Nothing like waking up and watching the sunrise in a secluded cove.

Mostly bars and restaurants in the evening for us. If it's a nice night (very rarely) we go for a walk on the beach with a bottle of plonk and watch the sunset. if its a bad night we have a bottle on deck then go below and watch tv, and sometimes we ........

With 4 kids (two very young), we no longer sleep on the hook and spend every night at the slip. We have a dock insert and bought a patio set to give us more room because the 298V can get crowded with 6 people. The kids usually watch TV, fish or go frog hunting on the club house grounds and the wife and I drink and socialize (rather, I drink and the wife socializes). Good times.

This is the lifestyle I am chasing...other than we would spend probably 50/50 in the slip/on the hook.

I spent an a couple hours with TXVISTA at his slip...perfect for me!

Our son is 8 years old and we spend pretty much all weekends and our holidays on our boat.

During the day time we always try to get out boating somewhere and do things wherever we end up together. If its a marina away from our own, we as a family get out and take in whats there.

In the evening when it gets dark, our son (Aaron) has a TV with DVD player in his aft cabin bed and a playstation hooked up to the TV.

We want our son to be active and don't want him spending a lot of time just watching TV or playing the playstation, however, kids are kids and he really enjoys being on the boat and when the time comes in the evening we let him use the electronic stuff he has.Our son has never complained about going to the boat and it is an hour and a half drive to get there each way, so the TV and playstation have there usefulness so he doesn't get bored. He can use his DS in the car to go to and from the boat. Helps in crappy weather when you can't do much outside as well.

He's happy, we're happy. Actually some of the playstation racing games are kinda fun.

Helpful to have frisbees, ball gloves and various other outdoor toys to play with as well.

We use our inflatable a bunch to tour around in when at various marinas.

Now, my goal in the next couple of weeks is to try and catch a Muskie with my son. I have a little 14' Aluminum boat that I will put in the well beside our 328. Can't wait to see the expression on my son's face when we hopefully pull a muskie in the boat that is almost as tall as him. They are catching muskies right now at the entrance to our marina.

We've only spent one night at the docks, the rest of our nights on the boat have been on the hook. The kids (5 & 9) will typically watch a movie, play with their DS, play board games, read, lay on the sun pads and look at the stars or some combination of all of the above. The wife and I will relax, have a couple of drinks, chat, maybe read a book for a while. It's very relaxing out there and something odd always seems to happen with the kids...they'll be bored out of their skulls at home when they have all of their toys, games, friends etc but put them on the boat where they are essentially trapped for hours on end and they're happy as can be.
