I think Capn's assessment of SS buyers is pretty much the definition that applies to many first time new boat owners, not just SS models. It all boils down to knowing what your needs are and being realistic about your use of the boat.

I just bought a seldom used 08 H210SS and will have it many years I'm sure....but then again i had my last boat (Bayliner 2050SS) for ten years and know that's the size/model for us. We trailer to lakes and spend the day swimming/water-sports and cruising around. Never had a desire to sleep on the boat or sail off for distant places.

We take friends just about every trip so the bow rider gives me added seating area and storage. The power of the boat provides what i need for water sports. The SS happened to fit the bill with all the extras i always wanted so it was a perfect fit for us. A few extras i never thought i cared for, but turned out to really enjoy as well.

As far as return on investment - if you are thinking that way then a boat purchase (or car, rv, atv or lawnmower) is not for you. The way i look at it is - will i get the amount of use out of the boat to warrant the purchase...we will hit the lake about 8 to 10 times a season including one or two 1 week trips. So for us it is a yes.

With all that said - the SS is a head turner for sure...mine has more top end than i want or need....being a heavy boat for the length the power provides more than enough out of the hole shot for water sports. It handles the waves far better than mine old 2050 due to the increased weight and deeper V and increased freeboard. I did not get the boat to impress others since they don't pay my bills...with that said I have gotten many compliments from wakeboat owners etc..

I like the bigger cruisers too - but honestly they offer more comfort for fewer folks for longer periods of time....just doesn't fit our needs, but that's why they make different models. For me - the 210 is a perfect size on the water and also trailering to/from lakes.

Well put TX. I was starting to think this was some sort of SS hate group (kidding). I bought my '08 new in Jan, it's my third boat, second Four Winns and I'm more than happy with it. Pushing near 60mph with 5 people in the boat is plenty "go fast" for most (my buddie's Caravelle Interceptor can't stay with me). My next boat is definitely a cruiser but I don't see any 21' bowriders out there I would be happier with.

Cheers,

JD

I've got many reasons to have a BR; and the SS in particular. Having looked at more than a few cruisers and not getting excited, I hope to eventually convince the GF that the 310SS is the boat to have

I still have about 200 payments to go on the current FW until she's mine. Nothing bigger until then!
