Hi,

We are thinking about crossing Florida over Lake Okeechobee. Did anybody do this trip recently? Any tips?

Thanks,

Richard

Richard,
It is a run I have been looking into in the past month. There are several webs sights that give some good advise. From everything I was able to find it looks like a fairly easy run. From the mouth of the Caloosahatchee river to Ft Pierce is 150 + - miles.
I think the biggest choice is to cross the lake or make the circle around the outside. I think that would depend on the weather more than anything as Lake Okeechobee stirs up with not a lot of wind.
Let me know how your plans progress.

I haven't crossed the lake yet, but I've run from the Port Charlotte area to Islamorada a few times. Its a beautiful run down the Gulf and through Florida Bay. Running though Lake O is on my to-do list and looks like a unique experience! 8) Post pics when you make the run!
