It's been over 9 months now. Have you ordered one yet ? I suspect you (hopefully) have been on a sea trial. Would love to hear your thoughts, and if it measures up to what you thought it would be, both the boat and the Zeus pods. :)

Electric Sunroof instead of the two pilot hatches ?
Reverso Oil change system ?

But Skyhook - yes. And I am here to report, it is A W E S O M E. I tried it in a solid wind with current moving and once it got its bearings (takes up to thirty seconds) the boat did not move. A game changer.

How is the maintenance on zeus and ips? I am sure it is not as complicated as a true IO (or is it) but neither is it almost maintenance free like a true inboard.

From everything I have been hearing from owners who have now had them for a couple of seasons and from what I've been reading in the Cummins manual, the primary 'extra' maintenance is the number of fluids you have to monitor and maintain. Except for an annual torquing of the propeller nuts and inspection of the drives themselves, everything is done from within the engine room. All parts exposed to water are bronze and stainless steel so corrosion of the drives is not an issue. It's nice to know that Cummins has a reputable, traveling service network as well.
Not that I'm buying anything :wink:

We are just getting into it now with our IPS on the 378. I have done tons of research and talked to many people with them, sierra is right. More fluids to change, about 3.5 - 4 gal of synthetic oil on each drive. There are electronic components of the drives you have watch , but it is not too bad. Pre and post operational checks are easy to do, but you have to be religious about them. We will see what next season brings as it will be my first with IPS and diesels!

Brilliant design. Having owned both a traditional IO with stainless steel props and an inboard with bronze props, rudders and supports, the choice of metals obviously makes sense. I look forward to your experience and thank you in advance for sharing it with us.

You nailed it Cap'n! I'm moving down under and buying the Sabre!!

Actually, what I will tell you is that, if I am in fact making a move, it's not that boat. It's funny... in life, my aesthetic is modernist and contemporary, but there is something about the traditional looks of a modern downeast boat that I'm drawn to, particularly one with the features and technology of the Sabre 40. I think it just has a 'cool factor' that belies it's traditional sensibility. But one too many people have said to me, "you're not old enough for that boat yet." And they're right.

The one I'm looking at is, in fact, a whole 'nother animal. And that's all I'll say... for now. :wink:
