Hi all
Last year winterized no problem the Volvo way of sucking antifreeze throught the engine.

This year just tried first to suck pure water through before using the antifreeze.

It is sucking it into the leg no problem but thats all, no water is coming out and after drawing some water to fill the leg no more water is drawn in.
Any ideas?

Tom

Are you using muffs to draw in the water? Make sure you have enough pressure on the muffs.

When did you change your impeller last? First thing I think of when I don't get enough water to the engine.

Sorted it myself thanks.

For interest guys don't use a soft hose; the suction was so good it just collapsed the hose shutting off the flow only I could not see it as it was in the bucket!!!!!

Thanks

Glad you got it figured out!

Just curious, do you drain the block and manifolds before pumping antifreeze through them? If you do not have a closed cooling system, you pretty much risk the anti freeze actually getting into the block and then not being diluted enough to not freeze.

I dont drain (in accordance with Volvo guidlines) but I run 10 litres in 60/40 mix through which I calculate
with the remaining clean water in the head should give me a minimum 33% mixture which is fine for this climate it rarely gets below -5c.
I run it on a continous cycle until all is nice and hot.

This has worked in the past (down to -15 last year)

Gonna put it away now for the winter. Roll on the summer.

Just curious, It become clear the block and exhaust manifolds before pumping antifreeze through. If you do not have a closed cooling system, there is a lot of risk associated with anti-freeze really enter into the block and then is diluted enough to freeze.
