She looks more like my 2000 model than a 2001 (port settee is not a 2001 model). I think she might be a mix of 2000/2001 hull/parts. As for the camper canvas going under the arch, there are isinglass cut outs directly under the arch lights. I don't really mind the canvas going under the arch because she folds up in one piece and tucks under (isn't that different for the later models?).

Look familiar? My 2000 model and same Captain's Navy interior.

As for being "a bit dated", this hull style went from 1999 to 2007 (correct me if I am wrong Cap'n) and the only big change that I have seen is more cherry veneer (although I think they changed the mid cabin from a flat berth to a berth/sitting area (which is useless on a 298 IMO). If you want something more recent, then you are looking at Cougarcruiser's 318V and you better have some $$$ for that upgrade.

I never would have guessed that about the cut outs in the canvas. The '03-newer models with the canvas connected to the arch looks cleaner IMO.

As for my dated comment, mainly small little details. My 268 is the same styling as the 298/328 boats which I like. What I've noticed is '02 and older mainly seem to have the white cabinets, and the sink cutout cover being the same material as the countertop vs. just a white piece. Just small things that make the boat look better. The vinyl colors used in '04 look great, but I like the white/blue guages on the newer boats.

Those cut outs in the canvas directly under the arch lights does allow a good amount of light to enter the cockpit area. Our 328 is also set up like the 298 for arch lights. Friends of ours like to drop over to our boat sometimes for a game of cards later in the evening and the light coming from the arch lights along with the cockpit lights gives us enough light for the game.

Mike.

Hard to tell alot about the boat in TC by the listing, but it does look nice from the pictures. I would say it's worth a call and a look see.

2002 298 Vista

The 1999 328 Vista they have at that TC dealer looks nice too. I even like the white cabinets

I agree with Capn. That '02 has a nice shine on the gelcoat in the pics.

Agreed...when we were moving our stuff into the boat, it was at night. We had the arch lights on through the canvas...they were more than adequate.

Any links to this boat yet?

Not yet. It typically takes him a few weeks (sometimes up to a month or more) between the time he takes the boats and officially lists them as for sale. He uses that time to inspect them inside and out, clean them up, and notify the owner of any work that has to be done before it can be sold. If there is any work that has to be done, he'll let the owner know about it and then it's decision time for the owner. He can either fix it or not. If the owner chooses not to fix it, the boat will go back to the owner to be sold elsewhere. Otherwise the boat is fixed and will be listed after the work is complete and paid for in full (and no, the broker does not do the work....the owner either hires someone or authorizes the broker to use someone for the work). The link to his website is http://www.jfboats.com. I would expect the Four Winns to be listed in the next week or two.

It's also interesting to watch how the boats on his lot move...or don't move. Some will sit for a year before they're sold while other's will be gone in a week or less. Most are probably sold within a few months. I think a lot of it has to do with how flexible the owners are in letting him move the price of the boat to match the market.

Way back in the fall I started this thread and just last week the boat was priced. Looks like the owner might have stored it on the lot for the winter and now that spring has rolled around he's finally ready to sell. The asking price is $65,000 (link says different, but I confirmed it's $65K). I climbed on it the other day and overall it looks to be in great shape with the exception of the canvas needing a couple of patches.

broker's website:http://www.jfboats.com/
direct link to the boat: http://www.jfboats.com/29'%20Four%20Winns%202005.htm

Nice looking boat. Perfect for Fire to buy NOW !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D
I think this boat is a better choice over the 06' 328 Vista at National Liquidators in Ohio.
And priced better as well.

Thanks for following up on the original post.
