I saw that picture of the iced-over lighthouse on the news last night - very cool....(pun intended).

Not much compared to what you Northerners are use to but this was the most snow we have had in a long time. We have been iced in since Monday and with the highs only 27 today and 31 tomorrow, it looks like the kids will be out of school the whole week (say goodbye to winter break).

Strategic planning on leaving the Christmas decorations up (yeah, right).

This is our 3rd Land Rover and we will finally see how they handle in the snow/ice (I don't even know how to put it in 4 wheel drive).

Actually your weather down south is worse than it is here in Michigan. Only about 5 inches of snow on the ground, and main roads are dry and clear here. Temp is about the same in mid to upper 20's.

Be safe !!

Speaking of crazy weather..........our marina is located near the end of the Thames River as the river exits out into Lake St.Clair. Last week when the temperature really warmed up above freezing there was considerable snow melt and rain followed by a significant drop in temperature back below freezing.

A ice jam ocurred at the mouth of the river and the water backed up causing flooding. The fixed height finger docks at our marina ended up being under water and then iced over. The water rose above the parking lot in our marina and over our seawall were most boaters store their dock boxes, picnic tables etc. The water was high enough some dock boxes became boats. The concern was the boats wintering on blocks. One year the water got high enough that people who stored their boats with the drain plugs in had their boat float off the blocks. Not good. Flooding to that extend does not happen often.

Our two dock boxes didn't move, but you can tell by the pictures I was emailed that the water was probably up 1 to 2 feet on our dock boxes. I'm thinking my lawn chairs, stainless steel BBQ and other stuff stored in our dock boxes got an unexpected washing. As the boxes are all wrapped up for the winter, opening the boxes in the spring should be a real treat!!

Mike.

I thought this was interesting in the local paper.

Quote:
On Feb. 27, 1963, The Chronicle said…

Lake Michigan was frozen from the singing sands of Pere Marquette Park to the rock-lined Wisconsin shore today.

One of the worst winters of the century has sealed the Big Lake’s 85-mile expanse again for the first time since 1936.

Ice — to infinity and beyond. Lake Michigan was frozen from shore to shore in February 1963.
This photo was shot in January 1963, while there was still what appears to be a seam of open water on the horizon.
