I bought the boat I mentioned in previous threads and I had a couple of questions.

I am located in North Florida and we occasionally get freezing temps. Would there be a problem just draining the block or should I do more winterizing?

Also, what's the process for chaning the oil in the 7.4L Volvo? Thanks for the help.

Congrats.....
Unless you will have a deep freeze 28 degrees or less on 3 days straight I would not wry..... However, i would winterize it if you are not planing to use boat for a while...

Thanks...I will drain the block and go that route. We are planning to use the boat for a run up the Silver River as soon as weather allows, plus take it out to get some experience with it before having fun with the watersports next summer.

I will be washing the boat tomorrow and taking it to storage tomorrow, so I will get some pics then. I still have a hard time believing the shape this boat is in for a 2001.

Thanks for the help, I will definitely be sticking around this forum for help and pointers, as this is my first boat. I figured if I went with a 26' to start, that it might keep the two-footitis away for a few years.

I'd just drain the block+manifolds to be safe, also drain the big hose on the circulating pump and impeller hoses, they all hold some water...once you do it one time it takes all of 15 min. I also put some marine grease on the threads of the drain plugs esp if you run in salt water...

Welcome. Always glad to see another big bowrider join the club.

Also, lower your outdrive all the way down to let out any remaining water trapped in there. Some models have drains on the outdrives as well. You may want to check to specs for your specific drive.

The later model Volvo SX drives have a slot (starboard side) that is right at the joint between the drive and the pivot housing, it's about width of a large screwdriver blade and this has to be kept open because if water gets trapped in there it can crack the drive housing. Stick a small screwdriver blade in there to make sure the slot is open. Older SXs (I think up to 99) had one drain plug on the pivot housing on the port side, like the OMC Cobras (they had one on the port side and 2 on the starboard side)....

That does not look like an original trailer -- How close do the end of the bunks come to the end of the running surface underneath the boat?

It looks like a four bunk trailer ---not a salt water center console style dual bunk on edge type.

I first wondered about the trailer too, because in the picture above it looks WAY too short for the boat. However, looking at the other pics in the ad, it looks OK. Nice boat.

I do have to move the winch stand forward a little on the trailer, it is not sitting correctly. I have not had a chance to get it back over to the water to make the changes, although today would have been perfect at 75 degrees, but I had to work then go pick up some furniture. Man, nothing get's past you guys! 8)
