Rinker does make some clever looking stuff. Unfortunately they don't do all that great a job of putting them together. I found the fit and finish on their boats noticeably inferior. Cheaper grade materials all around. If I wanted a Bayliner, well...

We pretty much never use the cooktop down below. But we do like being able to clean and store everything down below. Having to lug stuff up/down would be more work. That and where's the counter space for prep? I would definitely NOT like having the coffee maker above deck, so there'd still have to be a sink and some cabinets down below.

Clearly that drawing must only be showing the folded half of the cockpit table. Otherwise it'd barely be wide enough for a single place setting. Or are they going for the "euro square edges so you can bruise your kidneys look"?

Don't see the point of all that dead space along the starboard side of the cockpit. At the very least there ought to be a fridge or some cabinets in the gunwale.

Not to take this thread off course, but I have to say that one thing we really noticed from the Chicago boat show was the improvement of quality and design of the Rinkers. The Rinker 260 was the first cruiser we were considering a few years ago, and we couldn't believe the improvements made since then! IMHO they are not up to Four Winns Quality yet, but seem to be getting closer every year.

How the cokpit galley is handled on the little brother of the boat posted at the beginning of this thread.
There is also a sink insert that fits on top of the sink for use when food prep space is needed.

I like the cockpit galley forward in the cockpit, not aft like in the V305. Just my preference.

Ok, you sold me.......but only on the third last picture showing the aft seating hood ornament ( or should I say "aft ornament" ). Take that away and I'll still prefer my "U" seat seating configuration.

Kidding aside, the long stretch of seating along the port side still isn't ideal for talking or visiting with guests.

Really though, it's still all personal preference. Ah, the aft seating hood ornament.....wonder what that's worth? :)

Mike.

In the long run the boat is cheaper than the aft ornament..lol

So now the flaming hot surface is going to be right next to where you'd place your hands to steady yourself before walking down the companionway steps. And it has no guards around it to keep whatever's on the burner in place. That'll make it easier for a pot full of something hot slide right off and down the steps.

No thanks.

Another nice cockpit for 2011, on a 28 ft. boat. Sans flaming hot surfaces.

I'm not crazy about the angles on that one, but I do like the layout and love the rear-facing aft seat.

Not exactly a cockpit galley here, but this new boat is just too cool. 8)

That is very cool. I think somebody needs to integrate a full size (read useable) washroom on these big bowriders. That particular boat is one very slick unit.... Maybe I switched to the new innovation leader without knowing it. I really dig that hardtop too.

They did.......

I guess this does fit the "cockpit galley" title after all.
Quote:
The galley is located in the aft cockpit, with a grill that fits onto the swim platform, to keep the smoke and heat outdoors.

Well HOLY !!!

I had to go and actually look at the boat on the Chap website.... That is one fantastic entertaining boat. I believe they have hit on something with that full beam cabin. Only sleeps two but most people that can afford such a beast probably are older without kids anyways. If I was a millionaire.....

It's a 42' boat, and it has two cabins below, along with being able to use the couch as a bed too. So you'd be able to sleep six comfortably. But as 42' boats go it's not really any more innovative than most of the others in that class. Then there's the hassle of how the canvas sits on the back. It always annoying when the vendors don't show pictures with the full canvas installed. Then there's the issue of fresh air ventilation at the helm, those two tiny vent windows does look like they'd offer much. It's probably a nice boat, but don't know that it gets any higher marks than any of a dozen others in the class.

I don't know what boat you are referring to but I was looking at the Chaparral 327SSX. I didn't look at the exact specs but I believe it is a 32-33' boat. For a boat that size it is pretty innovative IMO. I'm sure it will have things that we all won't like but the benefits will far outweigh those. I just think it is a very cool well designed boat to entertain on. You could have quite a few couples & kids on board and at the end of the day you drop them off at the dock where you can stay in comfort. This is the perfect day boat/weekender.
Can you tell I really like it?

I was referring to what I thought was the boat shown in the pictures above. A bit of comparison against the website led me to believe it was their 420. But in rechecking it does look like that 327 too. Looks like they're carrying a lot of the same design elements across the various models. But now that I see the 327, I see the points you were making. It's certainly got a lot of clever ideas. I wonder how low the headroom is down in the cabin below the walk-thru above it?
