This sliding seating was on the Rodman 31 at the Southhampton Boat Show earlier this year.

What's under the transom seat area? There's a big box-like segment there. What is it covering? I see there's a small hatch on the side, but that could just as easily be a washdown shower. I've seen other boats do something clever like use that area as a 'garage' of sorts for a dinghy.

And where's the storage for lines, fenders, shore power cables and hoses? Can't tell if that screw-cap fitting on the port side is electrical or not.

The more I've looked at the pictures the less I like the angled/chunky look to certain sections of it. I'm sure an in-person impression might be different. But I can't say I'm all that interested in the looks. The layout and overall design is certainly interesting though.

Can't say I like that at all. No regular transom exit unless you swivel the seating? And that requires having nearly all of the platform clear? So much for carrying a dinghy. On a larger boat it might be more practical, but it just seems like a bad idea the way that 31 is setup.

That revolving chair thingy makes me think of this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o4xjlsodKmk

Nice Garage.......

Sorry for the hijack, but could not resist. In a larger yacht/boat. The Riveria 5800 does it right in so many ways for an express style boat.
Look if you dare.

Now back to the eargerly anticipated pictures and impressions by Michael B. on the 48 Cantius.

Here are some pictures I snapped the other night on the 48 Cantius, overall I loved the layout.
Below is the large swim platform, hydraulic is an option

Image

The locker opens with a push of a button, plenty of room for fenders and lines. However guests wll need to move from the seating area if you need access to anything. There are two small doors on either side for limited access.

Image

You can access the social area from either side straight ahead is the grill and refrigerator, opposite side is icemaker. The door is a 3 panels that slides back to a relatively small footprint.
Image

Looking into the upper salon, to the starboard the TV retracts for additional counter space
Image

The Helm seat is wide enough for the first mate, but with the wheel centered, it might be a little tight.
Image

One of the nicest features I think is the opening of the upper salon to the lower salon, this lets in a lot of sunlight
Image

The Master stateroom is situated midship

The Master head

The stiing area, keep in mind most of this is wide open above.

The Galley

The V berth forward.

All in all the boat was well laid out. I've never been a fan of canvas and isen glass, so the ability to close
the door to the elements is awesome. As Cap'n pointed out, probably not the best vessel for kids but for
the couple that enjoys entertaining it's perfect. I'm curious to see the price points on the 41 and 45 versions.
