This past fall my local West Marine wasn't able to help with finding a fuel filter for my boat (twin VP 5.0) so I ended up at the local Chaparral dealer's parts dept. Since Chap and Four Winns use the same engines they had the filters in stock and a good price. Well, today I stopped in to pick up a couple of new impeller kits. Painless. They were sitting on the shelves ready to go. While I was there I saw the rack of batteries and asked for the price of a group 27 deep cycle. It was $89. Same battery at West Marine - $165. Decided I would ask about spark plugs. $3.99 at the dealer, $4.99 at West Marine. Guess where I'm buying my parts for now on?

Yeah, I have always thought WM is pretty proud of their stuff, unless its on sale. But they are conveinent somtimes when you need something on the weekend.

Now you can buy more $4 + gas with the money you saved!

West Marine is only GOOD if you need it NOW or if it is on sale!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

They will do price matching with "brick & mortor" stores, if thats a help.

Yeah, I've noticed the same thing too here in SW CT........Parts/Acces. are about 10-20 % cheaper at this big marine dealer/dockage/repair facility nearby compared to WM.......right, only if there's a sale....and they usually have decent enough sales in the spring and fall for those items you can actually use......

I buy most of my motor parts at a local Evinrude/Merc dealer, they are an ex OMC shop and can get just about all the Cobra parts I need. WM does not have much for my Cobra except the Sierra oil and fuel filters, sometimes they have the transom mount gasket for the outdrive though...
I also have found batteries much cheaper at local marine shops than WM. However, WM is good for oddball fittings, nuts bolts, screws, hinges etc....I have a bunch of em left over from when I replace the deck in my old 88 200...
