A hemi would be cool, but who wants to listen to the Chrysler starter whine? :)

I have to go with Merc only because I need to support our local economy here. (factory 20 miles south of me). Really I think they are both great units.

On a slight tangent to the thread, any thoughts on why GM blocks seem to be the only ones in recreational boating? Why not Toyota or Dodge? Just curious...

Both Chrysler(Dodge) and Toyota made boat engines with their blocks.

The Chrysler Marine division brought out three new gasoline V8s and two four-cycle diesels (four and six cylinders, 65 and 100 hp), as well as a new 318 inboard-outdrive model

You can still find Chrysler engine's in many inboard powered "older" boats. http://www.marineparts.com/partspages/C ... ysler1.htm

Toyota's hiatus was much more short lived however.
They entered in 1997 http://www.rbbi.com/company/toyota/pressj1.htm
And exited in 2001 http://www.rbbi.com/company/toyota/toyotac.htm

Thanks for the info Cap'n. I remembered Chrysler o/b's, but not Toyota's.

Their starters do, just like every Chrysler engine made in the last 40 years. :)

I love Chrysler engines. It's everything else they build around them that drove me away. But that's completely OT...

The starter on my 98 ZJ 4.0 is a Mitsubishi starter, I can't even see the one on the Hemi so who knows....but it doesn't whine...

BTW, I think their quality has improved, I know not up to Japanese standards, but my 07 which I bought used has been a lot less trouble than my 98 was when it was the same age. But even so, when I worked out the issues on the 98, it's been very reliable ever since....

I can't believe they put volvo engines in boats. A friend has had a few Volvo cars... I always thought they'd make nice boat anchors one day, but.... hehehhe

Wow, you actually think that its a Volvo Motor? As stated above, they are all GM motors, 5.7, 6.0, 8.1, 4.3, 5.0 etc.... Basically the same motor just different outdrives.

Well ... not exactly. The diesel option offered in some Four Winns models is not a GM product.
