A bit of a novice when it comes to boat maintenance but I would like to give this apparently minor job a shot myself. I have a 2009 V358 with Merc 350 MPI Bravo III drives.
The boat is now in the water and I would like to change my impellers.
Can someone provide me with a step by step approach?
Pics would certainly help if any of you have some to share.

Thx guys

I've never did one on a Merc Bravo (engine mounted pump) but first I'd check what access you have to the pump. Sometimes they can be in the open with good access, sometimes not with bulkheads, fuel tanks etc right in front of it. In some cases it's easier to remove the pump from the engine and work on it where you can get good access. The other issue is doing it in the water. When you disconnect the raw water intake hose from the impeller housing, if the hose is below the water line water can siphon into the boat. So you either need to rig up something to keep that hose above the water line or get a wood plug and plug the hose while you are working on the pump.
My old OMC Cobra has the water pump in the upper drive housing and is a 20 min job to change...

I have a Bravo drive with the engine mounted pump and it was worth every penny paying someone $160 to change it for me. I have a 454 and mine is mounted on the very bottom of the engine leaving little to no room to work. Accessing the pump housing was the biggest trick for me, but after that its a pretty straight forward parts swap. Make sure when you buy your parts you buy the whole kit including a new housing which is plastic and does wear. I took this advice from Marinepartsexpress.com and bought the whole kit luckily as my plastic housing was wore badly after we got it out.

Are the motors raw water cooled or a closed system? Seems kind of a basic question but I'd never change impellers on a raw water cooled engine sitting in the water.....

Hi

If is fairly easy to do. Closed or open system, as to the impeller, it is all the same. Make note of the belt, disconnect the 2 hoses and mark them as to were they came from. Undo 3 bolts & the pump comes off. I would pick-up a manual on this.

On my first pump change, I had had a mechanic come to the slip & I watched him. It was the best $200.00 I ever spent!!! It was simple to do. Took less than 45min to replace.
