Annual Lake Michigan excursion

We decided we were'nt going to let the gas prices ruin our vacation. Plans are set for our third crossing of Lake Michigan!! Below is our itineray!

Leaving Green Bay for Sister Bay on Thursday July 21st.
Sister bay to Traverse City Friday July 22nd. ( going back, one of the couples hasnt been, and frankly I love the place!
Traverse City to Suttons Bay Monday July 25th.
Suttons Bay to Menominee Tuesday July 26th.
Menominee to Green Bay Thursday July 28th.

Looking forward to Suttons Bay and Menominee, we've never been. I always get pumped up when we plan this. Bring on Summer!!!!!!!!!!

Not sure if we will be in Suttons Bay the 25th but that's my home port. Maybe we came meet up.

Hey Michael,
Have you considered Charlevoix? We drove to Suttons Bay, and it was very nice/peaceful, but there wasn't a whole lot going on. Charlevoix have a good sized downtown right next to a VERY nice municiple marina. Lots of places to eat, walk, and good bars to go to. We went there on our our trip, and it was hands down our favorite stop....even better than Mackinaw. Just a suggestion.

Charlevoix is a great little town, but I think he was there on last summers' cross lake trip.

Michael it looks like you have a good thing going with the group you travel with. A trip like that is all that much better with a group of good friends!

Yeah we were in Charlevoix last year and we definitely plan on returning, one of the nicest marinas and towns we've been to, certainly at the top of our list for favorites. I'd also like to return to Petoskey when they finish with the remodeling and breakwall.

Hard to get excited when you're under a winter storm watch in April!!!

Mary Ann and I love Sutton’s Bay, we went there last year for our vacation. It is one of our favorite ports, quaint town, great scenery, sandy beaches and a great bay for dingy trips. The town has a nice local grocery store for provisioning, walking distance?, better via car or bike. The area has several great wineries; one Leelanau Cellars in Omena, is accessible by boat: (N45 03.119 W85 35.022) http://www.leelanaucellars.com/home.html. The tasting room shares its facility with a very good restaurant: http://www.knotjustabar.com/. The facility has docks, but you cannot access them with a boat of any size. We anchored on the South side of the bay and took the inflatable to shore.
Another great stop while in The West bay is Marion Island (currently called Powers Island) N44 52.044 W85 34.138. It is an easy 11 mile day trip from Sutton’s Bay. The East side of the Island features a protected natural harbor, great beach for swimming, laying in the sun, etc. The drop-off allows you to drop the hook in twenty feet of water and back in so you can step off the swim platform into knee deep water. It has picnic tables and marked hiking trails. We stayed there on the hook last year. Have a great trip! Dan
PS, the only down side to Sutton’s Bay marina, no vertical posts on the floating docks.

Thanks Dan, i just adjusted the schedule to allow for two nights in Suttons Bay! Man, am I pumped!!

I think I forgot to mention the wineries the last time you had a trip to the area...gtbay has the leelanau wineries covered. Here are the old mission wineries. Power island is definitely a great spot to stop. If you're there already, you could head over to bower's harbor and hit up bower's harbor vineyard, and just down the road for dinner/brews at Jolly Pumpkin http://www.jollypumpkin.com/traversecity/Default.htm or Bower's Harbor Inn for some finer dining (at the same location as Jolly Pumpkin). Of course in TC, you have North Peak brewpub, Mackinaw brewpub, and Bubba's. As always, feel free to shoot me a message if you have some specific questions. I'll do my best to get you an answer.

+1 on the North Peak in TC! It's only about a 5min walk from Clinch marina. The food,beer and atmophere was excellent!
