So the oil filter in my 99 candia 254 is impossible to reach. I have decided that this is the last year I am going to take my boat half way apart just change the oil filter. I have been looking for a remote oil filter or a oil filter relocation kit. I can find numerous kits for a chev 350 but EVERY single one of them says NOT for marine use. A kit made my merc sells for $300. one from summit racing or jegs runs around $60. Why would they say not for marine use? what (besides stainless hardware) could be different?
Also, has anyone else done this ?

Make sure you find out what materials they are made of. I would call the manufacture and ask them why not.
Then you can decide.

All of those are for mercs, I have a volvo. I would think if they are both chevy 350s it would work from 98 to 99 but not sure.

Merc, Schmirk. This is for marine engines, and it will work just fine.

Quote:
BRAND NEW remote oil filter kit. Designed to mount on MerCruiser center-rise exhaust manifolds. Will work in 1983-later MerCruiser exhaust manifolds and risers with no modifications. Suited better for sterndrive applications. Will work on OMC, Volvo Penta, Indmar, etc. applications by modifying the remote oil bracket or mounting the bracket in other convenient locations in the engine compartment.

THE VOLVO PENTA PART NUMBER IS 3860449 (5.0, 5.7 LITER ENGINES). But that will cost you one arm and 1/2 a leg.

They are SUPER expensive. That is why I am looking at one from summit racing. They are $75 for one with 2 oil filters. Double filtration. I am not sure I will do a double but $60 for a single VS $300 for one from volvo. The only thing I can think that is different would be stainless hardware. I can buy a lot of bolts and nuts for $240.

I did it on a few older boats before with no issues what so ever. Yes, I did put stainless hardware on them. Unless you get one from the factory, your going to have to figure out how to mount it anyways.
