Well, I'm back with another 258. This one is the same as the first, except a nice dark blue color rather than the teal/turquoise color the first one was. 5.8 Cobra SX and it looks like it has never been used. Factory installed swim platform looks a lot nicer than the after market one that was on the first 258 we looked at. A bit of background. We have looked at over a dozen boats in the last three months. I can't believe what people are advertising as "turn key". We finally found a 1992 Sea Ray 290 that had everything. Loads of room, all upholstery was good, new 7.4 Merc with the original Bravo II. Unfortunately, it was still shrink wrapped so we couldn't see the canvas but that would be included in the survey. After all, the rest of the boat looked great, what could be wrong.

Oh man, where do I begin. The survey was a....disappointment to say the least. The survey revealed a water logged foredeck core from the pulpit back to the port and starboard navigation lights. Inside both shelf areas in the bilge were full of water and all the bellows in the drive were brittle. Needless to say I cancelled the mechanical inspection and we walked away.

Then we found this 94 258 for sale, offered what we thought was a fair price, thanks to you guys here, and it was accepted. Now all we have to do is the survey and mechanical inspection next week.

Man, this is worse than buying a house.

Cheers
Mark

Well, the deal on the second 258 is dead. The surveyor found a leaky transom seal with high moisture readings around that area, a leaking hot water tank with high moisture readings in the shelf and stringers, very high moisture moisture in the forward port engine mount stringer, high moisture readings in the aft starboard engine mount stringer, above normal moisture reading in an area midship below the shower sump.

After talking with the broker, he said that the owner had a friend of her ex husband replace the gimble bearing and bellows last fall. Looks like payback's a bitch.

The search continues.
