How annoying is this? Cleaning the boat to launch this weekend. I scrubbed at a little black spot that wouldn't come off the no skid. I scratched at it with my thumbnail and the gel coat collapsed into an air bubble in the fibreglass. After I scratched all the loose stuff out I now have a slightly less than a dime sized black "crater" in my nice white floor!

I will seal it with resin to keep any water out then see if my dealer has anyone who can make it invisible.

Appears to be poor layup of the fibreglass (air bubble) I poked at the rest and it all appears good.

Annoyingly yours,

Gregs

That blows. A non-skid patch will be really hard to replicate. Hopefully your dealer has a good gel-dude.

Ya know, there are a couple of things, (yeah mine is old), I have noticed about F/W's gel-coat.
#1- It's really brittle, Gel-coats brittle by nature, but this stuff's REALLY brittle.
#2- I have not found a drilled-hole on mine through the gel-coat yet that was chamfered, i.e. cleats, stern-light mount, ect., ect., which will results in spyder-cracks and I have some. Just a two-second zip with a chamfer-bit and problem solved.

I'll have to say, and don't stone me for this, on my previous S/R, every through-gel hole was chamfered which results in no spyder-cracks around hardware. Maybe F/W's doing it now, dunno.

Hey - it happens to all brands of boats...these things are made by humans not God...air pocket and rather it be there than on hull. get her patched up and rock-on.

Dealer is actually going to go to Four Winns to see if they are interested. Our dealer is very good and has a great relationship with FW. I took pictures they are going to send to FW. I have already sealed the void with fibreglass resin to keep the water out.

I only have one small gel coat crack about an inch and a half long near the anchor locker. Most of the drilled holes in my boat are chamfered.

There is one other spot on the boat that the fibreglass work causes me concern. Starboard side, stern, on the curve between transom and gunnel, on the deck part of the shoebox, the glass is awfully thin for several inches. Bad layup. Normal people would not have seen this but I've been upside down with rear seat out and saw it.

Still pleased with the product overall.

Greg

Geeze Greg, I think you are the second person here recently with a problem like that. I seem to recall reading it not so long ago...

I think the outcome was that Four Winns wasn't doing anything for them, and that was that. I hope that mike can help you out though!

Good luck, and we will see you at the marina soon.

Hey Chris. Jen says she is going to try them to see what they say. Not much to be done anyway. As someone else said, better there than in the shiny gel-cote.

Trying to get in on Saturday but too much else going on.

See you soon.

Greg

ps. what's that shiny thing in the sea-flea? 8)

You mean my bald noggin'? LOL

Yeah, we were out of town for most of the weekend, and the weather isn't looking too good for today. I am hoping we will be in the water sometime this week.
