Hi there ,,I just bought a 2001 268 vista,it wont be arriving to me for another 6 weeks at least ,and I have been trying to find out info on the cruise air a/c reverse cycle heater,does it only operate while on shorepower(I have no generator) or will it work while im out on the water as well? Im wondering if the heater will work while im out fishing etc with the family,I was hoping with the camper pack up it may keep things a bit warmer over the cooler months,I realise its a bit of a stupid question,but ive never owned a boat with a/c or heat,so its all new to me right now,any help would be great! cant wait to get her home and get to work cleaning and grooming her up ,cheers ,Mike

The a/c/heat will only work from shore power or generator if so equipped.

Congrats on the new boat!!!

You have a good size boat for someone that is new to boating. Take the U.S.C.G. or Power Squadron safety classes. At the club and more so at the ramp, I have seen more boaters get them selfs into trouble because the did not know.............

The best one was, "what side of the bouys do I stay on?" In a nice way I said, If you need to ask that question, than you don't belong on the water. I was out yesrterday, and saw another boat grounded becuase he was on the wrong side. When a boat hits a sandbar at 25 knots, things can happen!!!

The best one for me was being new, when I did not set the anchor right and we drifted into shore. THANK GOD the ladder was down, it hit the rocks first before the outdrive did.

Uhhhh, He is not new to boating. It's his first cruiser with AC/Heat. And since he is from New Zealand, it is doubtful the U.S.C.G. or Power Squadron has those classes available where he lives.

mike that set works only at 220 Volts AC (or onehundred...whatever volts AC in America), so without a generator only connected at shore power.
But if your need is for winter, you can surely find a non expansive small webasto heater that works with 12/24 volts DC and have it installed by dealer or at the harbour

Thanks for the help so far guys ,you are correct ,im not new to boating ,this is actually my fourth boat and Ive been around boats since I was a kid ,just never had one with heating or a/c! I live in the Marlborough sounds here in New Zealand,only 800 metres to the marina from my house,take a look on google ,its an awesome place,top of the south island and the gateway to the north island via the well known cook strait(named after famous explorer capt James Cook) can anyone tell me more on ideas for heating while at sea? I like the idea of something to keep the family warm ,but also want something that is very safe to have on board as well! lol ,cheers ,Mike
