Which model/year is this?

It's been sitting a year (covered) where my buddy works at...a horse farm. They have no care for it, want it gone. He asked her what she wants... she said... idk, 2k? I'll offer less. I'm not sure what year or what model four winns it is by the pictures.

Looks like a 1999ish horizon 180 from my endless searching of google pics. The rear seat design/paint matches that of the newer models, not early 90s.

Worth $2000? Trailer is a bit rotted, unknown condition of motor/outdrive. Worked perfect before it was parked a year ago was told. My friend is going to bargain with her, see if I can get it for less.

It is for sure newer than 1997. That is when that hull was introduced. I'd guess 1999-2002. It looks like a 180, however, it could be a 170.

Yes, it is for sure worth $2000. Even if the motor is shot.

The trailer is iffy, I might have to bring my welder to fix on site to make it home.

It's just a chevy 3.0 right? Those are stupid cheap to fix if it's the car engine.

I'm trying to knock her down on price. I put $1000 take it off your property today on the table. I'll see what the counter offer is. I'm not really in the market for a boat, I already have a smaller jon boat docked in my slip, but.... for the price? I don't know anything about bowriders but if I have to put $1000 in it, it should be worth at least $3k right so at least I break even. I'm not rich and $2000 will suck me dry but it seems like I could fix it and sell it for some profit being it's newer.

Yeah, that is a 3.0 Chevy motor. Yes, they are pretty straight forward to repair and/or replace. The Volvo Penta drive on the other hand can't really be considered cheap. Although, it should be pretty straight forward.

If running good and in good overall condition that boat could bring $5-6k (market dependent of course). That is a good hull design and pretty sought after generation of Four Winns. If it is a 180 that helps also.

While the block was made by GM/Chevy, it is not and has never been used in a car or truck or any road vehicle. That motor is pretty much a dedicated marine use only motor.

It was actually based on the inline 6 motor that was used back in the 60s and 70s. They lopped 2 cylinders off and made a 4 cylinder motor. The inline 6 motor was also used for marine applications (the one in my old project boat).

Make sure you use the marine specific parts for the motor especially the electrical stuff. (starter, alternator etc.)

Well, if I buy this thing today for 1-2k.... what should I first look for when I haul it home? Should I attempt to start or what should be done first before I even attempt to turn it over?

Check the oil for water. Pull the spark plugs and look for corrosion. If everything looks clean, try to turn the motor by hand/wrench to see if it is free.

Get cooling water supplied to the motor and give it try. Of course you'll need a battery with juice.

The water pump would be the first thing to service. The impellor will need to be changed out. Pretty simple to do.

If it turns over and/or runs you are more than half way there.

Hm, sounds like a lot of work. I hope I don't loose my @$$ on this thing. Seems like a good price for resale (maybe keep and sell my jon boat) but not nearly as easy to work on.

I don't know about values in the US, but the outdrive ( + rams, trim pump etc) must be worth something to someone; difficult to see you could lose if you bought it for $1,000 !

Make sure the floors not soft.................It looks to be sitting out in the weather. If it is soft about 90% chance the stringers and transom are too. Large bills to repair, unless you are handy.

As someone else said the 3.0 is marine specific. If the blocks cracked due to not being winterized, they are getting harder to come by. For a k tho, I'd take my chances.

That particular boat has a full fiberglass cockpit liner. While it has some wood in the structure, the chances of rot are significantly lower than the older generation of boats.

If that boat was local to me and I could get it for $2k, I would have already paid for it and got it home. You could easily double your money, maybe triple it if the boat is clean.

The 3.0 is still in production. They are pretty much a dime a dozen.
