Stopped by my boat mechanics place the other night to have him check out a new/used outboard for the fishing boat....(Evinrude 48 for the 17' fish-getter)...he had a 24' Chapparal sitting there that looked new....said it has 140 hrs and was a new/used purchase by a first time boat owner. Seems they had no concept of winterizing and left it sitting over winter.....took out for the FIRST time this summer and discovered the 5" long gash in the block....ran it still and seized her up. 5.7 VP trashed

Now for my good news - the old 48 I found had been sitting up in a guy's garage for 10 years....looked new....test out at 150 compression on both cylinders....getting carbs rebuilt to replace all seals/gaskets and new impellor and getting installed...motor, cables, hookups and a trolling motor to boot = all for $500. For any fishermen out there - that's one hell of a deal! - motor is an easy sell at 2K and has never been in salt and i have spoons in the kitchen with more scratches than this has on the skeg.

Heh, much like criminals and idiots making jobs for prison guards and morticians, some boat owners seem to the have the sole purpose of keeping mechanics gainfully employed.

You say it was a deal.... now... We all know the saying about the two happiest days of a boat owner's life...

+1 on the bargain you found. Have a great time with it!

And good luck on the AC. Texas without AC, whew, makes me sweat just thinking about it.

Well I can definitely attest to the first part being true, I am so excited!!! I just purchased a 2008 H220SS her video is on youtube if you want to take a look see. Search on youtube Four Winns H220SS and she is the third one , the yellow one in Mooresville, North Carolina let me know what you guys think. I hope the second part dealing with the happiest day being the day you sell it won't apply to me either. Joe from Miami 8)

First trip with the fish getter with new (to me) power is under the belt....the engine runs like a top and really pushes the 17 footer to the honey holes. Very pleased to get this for 850 after carb rebuild and install.

this was a boat i picked up cheap 3 years ago and have since replaced the decking and upgraded carpet and seats. the SS doesn't see any hooks or fish so having the fishing rig handy is nice. We usually haul both the SS and basstracker to the lake-hit some fish in the morn and wakeboard in the afternoon.
