I bought it from an individual who told me the tanks were emptied prior to winter layup. It has not been used this year yet aside from my sea trial, so tanks should still be empty. If not, yikes. Full tank going through a Maine winter would not have been good! Head guages display empty tanks, but they could be malfunctioning.

Flyer, no I don't have a diagram of the specific drainage system. I wish I did. The manual does reference the sinks and showers into the sump and from there to the optional grey water tank, but that doesn't explain why I would have water coming from a vent, as I don't believe the grey water tank has a vent. Perhaps mine pumps into the black water tank. I will be checking tonight...and to see if it's full.

I wish I had a better tour of this boat, and really I'm to blame as I just didn't ask enough questions when I bought it.

Really sounds to me that your boat is rigged up in what I call "fresh water lake style". I bet your sinks/shower are being pumped into your waste tank which is full, and thus overflowing through the vent. this is a bad condition. you must get pumped now, and also after check the vent line (perhaps blow it clear) and replace any vent filter which is likely to be there.

If you are using for ocean, I would add thru hulls for all sinks (as I have done with mine). Shower prob too low and still need sump, but I would have the sump discharged overboard via thru-hull. If you are not up to the conversion then have a mechanic do it (should not run very much money).

So my sump pump does pump into grey water tank which has a vent. This leads me to believe the tank must be full. Very full actually to have water forced from the tank UP and out the vent. I tried shining a flashlight in but could not see any liquid.

I think I like the idea going thru hull with at least my sinks, and possibly redirecting the sump to discharge overboard via thru hull.

As for overflow, I hate the Rule shower sump. It doesn't seal against overflowing. I add some caulk as a gasket but even then it doesn't seal perfectly. Especially not when soapy water starts foaming up in there.

At some point (probably this month) I'm going to rip out the Rule sump box and replace it with an Attwood.

The Attwood at least has a seal AND it has clips that hold the lid onto it. The Rule one requires using a screwdriver. This means the simple act of cleaning the sump requires pulling four screws. And then spending an extra 10 minutes digging the lost screws out from the bilge. Eventually the screw holes get stripped.

That's strange that is the exact sump that came from the factory on my boat. I can see from this thread that Fourwinns changed things up during production.

better looking sump. will keep in mind if replacing. what is price?

still i recommend best bet is to direct discharge as much as you can by adding thru-hulls and avoiding internal waste tank.

I now only have shower and A/C going to sump. kitchen sink was the real culprit given the food products etc. one stupid little piece of corn caused the whole process to backup twice last year coming back to a smelly boat. swore it wouldnt happen this year.

So, I have a 2005 348 inboard. I have the thru hull to run the galley sink overboard. Looking for suggestions, other than getting a a new shower sump to plug up the inlet where the galley sink hose dumped into the shower sump. Some sort of cap? Would rather not buy a new shower sump, just want to plug up the galley sink inlet. Thanks in advance for suggestions...

I used it as an opportunity to upgrade to the Attwood shower sump vs the factory installed Rule.
