I am buying a '95 258 Vista with a 5.8L OMC (volvo) EFI engine.

Ive always been a GM guy!! Im spazzing here...lol. I realize the 5.8l is the 351 Ford engine, very well known in the FoMoCo world. It appears to have just about the same hp as the 5.7l engine (255hp vs 260hp).

Any feedback on the 5.8l EFI engine out there? Are they as reliable as the ol' 350? Any common problems I should be on the lookout for?

I had that same motor with VP duoprop in my H200 and it was wonderful. 10 years old and probably close to 700 hours on it and the only thing i changed out of the ordinary were the belts which shouldnt be so unusual for that many years and hours. It fired up every single time i put it in the water and ran like a champ. I thought it was one of the best motors out there at the time. id be shocked if that boat isnt still running out there just fine.

An H200 with a 5.8, AND duo prop? Wow....that must have been fun!

The day i picked it up. We didnt name it but kept it the same. That boat was a blast. Ran about 60 which seemed a lot faster!

I have a 93 H218 with the 5.8L OMC EFI and it has been a great engine. I bought it 8 years ago and have no regrets. I was always a Merc guy (GM), so I understand your concern.

I have a '96 Sundowner 245 with the 5.8L and duo-prop. Love it. Smooth, plenty of power. It won't a sport boat in a 258, but it should be a fine cruising machine. Good luck.

1995 240 Horizon with the same engine. Abosutely fantastic. I've owned powerboats for 25 years - best engine ever.

1 problem in 10 years - maniford disintegrated. Don't know why.

Would buy this again in a second.
