Nice day today, wife got off work early, went to a cove close to the marina, anchored and did some swimming. Weather was sunny with a few clouds but after a few hours it was getting a little dark, Forecast was for no rain, weather radar looked good, but I decided to head back anyhow, just looked a little ominous. Not 5 minutes in the dock the wind kicked up then the rain came so hard I could not see, one gust blew my 12 year old across the slip and almost in the water, luckily he grabbed onto a line on the boat next to mine. We are in a covered slip and it was like a windtunnel, never seen anything like it, could hardly even breath the wind was blowing so hard. If he would have went in no way we could have found him with the wind and rain, a minute later a gust blew me right over the back seat and into the boat trying to get the cover on. Figured screw this, jammed the cover under the windshield and we all bolted for the truck to wait it out. It went from dead calm when I docked it to unreal straight line winds in minutes, debris was flying everywhere and I even ended up with someones foredeck sunpad in my boat when I went to cover it back up.

As we are sitting in the truck waiting for it to calm down I see a couple guys running from the marina restaurant, hop into a bowrider, back out and the guy floors it. Slams into 3-4 boats on his starboard side in slips, seen his buddy roll into the back of the boat, the guy panics, floors it again, turns hard to port and slams into the opposite dock. His buddy is thrown out of the boat and before I can even get out of the truck to see whats going on the driver sees his pal climb up one of the docs, picks him up and floors it out of there - all in a no wake zone in a crowded marina. My windshield was fogged up so I couldnt see any numbers or the make of the boat, no doubt alcohol was a factor there. Hopefully someone else seen it up close.

Then I got home and I was greeted with a driveway full of my roof shingles, no power and several large trees down in may back yard, good thing state farm has been jacking me around on my roof that got destroyed back in April by baseball sized hail so they dont have to pay twice. Weather this year has really been something..

Very glad you are all safe and sound. That can be very scary when it just comes out of no where like that.

We drove all the way down to Norris on Saturday morning (3 hours). We were standing at the Marina--ready for a Father's Day weekend of boating. Radar got uglier and uglier the closer we got to Caryville. Ended up turning around and driving all the way back home and bagged the whole weekend. BIG BUMMER!

Weather has been strange this year indeed. Let's hope for a good July 4th weekend.

I drag raced for a lot of years and I thought I was a pretty good amateur weatherman, I had to be pretty sure if I was going to drag my race car 1500 miles I wasnt going to be sitting in the rain for three days.

I have never seen such a drastic weather change and I can say I was totally caught off guard. In retrospect I should have said screw the cover and ran to the truck with the family or just went below on the boat and waited it out. It hit hard, over 80,000 are still without power and the roads are a mess in the whole area with downed trees. No confirmed tornadoes yet.

I have had quite a few good boating days this year, just goes to show that all it takes is a few minutes and things can get bad really quick. I heard that a wakeboard boat was trying to get back into the marina at a good clip when it hit the shore or a bridge and some people may have been hurt too, so it can always be worse.
