Plug on top of holding tank 268 vista.

Does anyone know what the plug is for? It was laying on top of my holding tank on a 268 vista.

I'm trying to download a picture but it isn't working. White connector with four prongs.

I'm guessing it's the plug in for the tank level indicators. Does it look anything like these?

Could be part of the sending unit that provides how full your tank is

I ordered the sending unit and monitor but it has not arrived yet. I'm hoping I can tap into the plug for a power supply.

I don't mean a "plug" like a cap. I mean an electrical plug. How do you post a photo?

Ok I understand now. I think I have seen what your talking about. If your boat didn't come with the tank monitoring system...this could be the branch off the factory harness for that system. Does it look like a generic harness connector with a clip on either side of it? I believe these are used through out the boat for branching off the main harness. I can pull the tank cover of my boat tonight to see if we have the same thing.

Mine has a square four pin plug going to a single sender in the top middle of the tank. Plus mine has three more senders with a different style flat white moldex plug as well. I assume the tank monitors have been replaced at one time, same with the fresh water tank. From what I can see the square 4 pin sealed type connector was the original FW setup by the way its routed and tied to the other hoses but it may be the other way around.

Thanks for the time and info. That sounds like what I have but I have never had a holding tank monitor. I did order the Fireboy dual tank monitor and sending unit for the holding tank. I figured that's what the plug was for but nobody knows for sure. The fire boy has a two wire assembly and I will have to figure out how to tap into the pre-wired plug for power. I plan to buy the fresh water sending unit if I am pleased with the performance of the holding tank's unit.

I think you may be in luck, I found a pic of the head that the original owner had taken when he first bought my boat and it has the round fireboy level sensor. Now it has a square Dometic in it so you may be good to go, look at the wiring diagram for your boat and see if there is a fuse for it, if there is and the boat didnt come with it there will be no fuse in the panel. Even if the plugs are different at least you have the wiring there most likely.

The Xintex/Firebuoy sensor absolutely SUCKS. It invariably clogs up inside the sensor tube. The Dometic sensors suck a lot less. They have their own issues, the sensors are floats and things get stuck to them. But this is usually solved by other liquid in the tank being sloshed around when you're underway. With the Firebuoy the only way to clear the sensor is to remove it and clean it. That's an infinitely NASTIER job. Trust me, I had to do it. The third time it happened I demanded the dealer give me something else (we bought the boat new). The factory gave me the Dometic setup. It took a much larger hole to install the sensor flange (versus just using three separate holes and rubber pressure-fit seals). But it has worked reliably since installing it.

If I even have to replace it again I'm going to look into the external foil sensor kind. They're (a lot) more expensive but much less prone to problems.
