Count me also as one who likes the play. With time and experience (meaning once you've had the typical problems that occur over time), you'll learn how it feels when it's got air in the lines, when it's low on fluid, etc. I wouldn't want to be isolated from that sensation.
As to the potential for damage to your truck, the fact of the matter is that if you tow at all, you're doing *some* damage. There just isn't any way to avoid it. The only questions are, how much damage, how severe, how soon will it become apparent, etc. But I know what you mean about minimizing it.
