Sunset from the lake last night...Conditions were perfect.

Pics from the blackberry just don't do it justice, but you get the idea.

Yup, I go out almost nightly just to watch the sunset on the water. It's beautiful stuff

Getting back to the regularly scheduled programming......
Spent a good part of yesterday installing my new Faria depth sounder and fixing a couple of things I found needed attention.

Pic of the Airmar base siliconed to the hull. I ended up having to mount it around 21" from the stern due to the location of the bilge pump, as I didn't feel like moving the pump and having to make new holes. The actual transducer is sitting there to the right. I put in the antifreeze and assembled this morning as I wanted the silicon to cure completely. This is probably as clean as that bilge will ever be again

Photo of the gauge on the left most. I saw in the Horizon electrical manual that there was a connector as part of the standard wiring harness specifically for a depth sounder. Since it had a connector on it, I just cut the connector off and spliced/crimped that to the Faira gauge. It comes on when the ignition is on, which is what I wanted vs. hardwired to the fuse box.

The other thing needing fixed was that the rear bench seat box had all 4 angle brackets (which secured it to the deck) broken. The deck cover in the middle (over the gas tank) is sitting a bit proud of both left/right side deck areas and the flexing on the seat box must have stress fractured the brackets. So, I took off 4 of the same brackets supporting the inside dividers, reused them on the outside, and then installed 4 new ones I had laying around where I took off the good ones. That way I was able to use the same holes holding the box to the deck.

One last thing I want to address soon is my leaky drive fluid bottle/reservoir. It doesn't leak while just sitting but does when underway (the bottom of the bottle where the rubber hose/sensor are gets wet with fluid). From what I've read, the level in the bottle increases/decreases with outdrive heating up/cooling down. I'm not sure if it's the bottle itself (small crack) or maybe just a bad design. The cap is vented to allow air into the bottle, but is not vented the opposite way. Seems to me that as drive heats up and lube wants to expand back into the reservoir, the air it took in when cooled needs vented in order to relieve that expansion. I think since there's no two way vent that the fluid is forced out the weakest link, which is the two connections at the reservoir (hose and sensor). The service desk guy at my local marina seemed to start puffing smoke out his ears while I tried to explain and had no opinion but to offer me an $80 new bottle. I plan to take the whole assembly off and pressure test it to start diagnosing what's happening. Will report back later.

Boat looks great! I am a bit jealous since I am awaiting my boat to get home but it seems like things are taking forever. Happy boating. 8)
