Anchor

I'm looking for an anchor for my 2007 H190. Can anyone point me to one that fits in the forward storage compartment?

I have an anchor storage under the front seat at the bow and have an anchor similar to this:

Mine is an 8# with 6' of chain and never have an issue of it letting loose.

I have the same anchor as Rob, it hasn't come loose on me yet. i also have two other anchors i use to tie off the back to shore. one looks like the mushroom anchor but it has three forks i think it's called a river anchor and the other is the pole anchor the kind you drive into the ground.

mine fits perfect, E-10 is the size, 3 ft vinyl coated chain folds nicely on top. same style as robs link.

West Marine sometimes sells a whole kit with the anchor rode and 150 ft of rope.

Bear in mind it's helpful to have a few feet of chain at the anchor and then the rest as rope. The chain helps weigh down the anchor rode (that's what the line is called). This helps the flukes of the anchor dig into the bottom. Otherwise just using all rope tends to pull the anchor upward a bit too much, preventing it from getting a good bite.

Which kind of anchor to use depends entirely on the bottom conditions where you're going to be boating. The fluke type work best in mud or other loose bottoms. For rocks or hard sand there are other choices to consider (but I'm no anchor expert).

And then there's the question of how much rode to let out. It's common to use a 5:1 scope. For every foot of depth run out 5 feet of rode. Use 7:1 for overnight situations. So be sure to carry enough rode to handle your typical anchoring needs.

Yes, you always want a good length of chain on your Danforth anchor. They say the longer the chain, the better the anchor.

I believe I have the 8lb size Danforth on my boat as well. With about 4ft of chain.

Not to hijack this thread but I also have an anchor question. At our lake most of the coves are a slate bottom. It can be very difficult to get a good hold of the bottom. The "parking" situation if you will can be extremely crowded and its hard to let out enough rope to get the proper hold (average depth is 15-20ft, close to the shore). Is there any other options that could work. Other than maybe a bucket of concrete. Thanks, Matt.

I picked up a 13 lb danforth-type anchor from Academy for less than $30 (don't remember the exact price). It is white and plastic coated, and also has the center piece that allows the chain to slide up or down its length. This makes it very easy to pull the anchor back up. Basically, you drive up on the anchor and let the boat cross over it. This drags the chain down the center handle and allows you to pick up the anchor from its center, rather than trying to unstick it from the end of the handle. (I've watched many a fishing guide along the TX coast do this exact same procedure and they have never had a problem unsticking an anchor from the mud)

I got this type of anchor because our main lake does have trees in some areas on the bottom and I'd run the risk of losing my anchor if I didn't have some way to back it off a tree branch.

I've also seen people use a separate float attached to the far end of the anchor. This pops up a marker where the anchor is resting. It also lets you yank up on that line to pull upwards against the digging angle. Very handy for getting it unstuck. I keep meaning to set one up for mine...

I got the danforth anchor also-actually the locker has hangers for the danforth in my 08' model. I have no clue as to weight, but my anchor is rated for a 25-30' boat according to the specs. My boat is 21' - it actually is the largest anchor that will hang in my bow locker, which is fine. Rubber coated is nice and makes clean up easy - plus easy on the gelcoat. I also lined my locker with rubber matting.
