Winedown, you have a problem there. Check any filters, clean or replace as required although new is better. If that doesn't help measure your vent temps. They should be 60F or lower but closer to 50. Next step is to expose the unit and check line temps. The smaller diameter lines are the high pressure side and should be very hot to the touch and the larger diameter lines are the low presure side and should be very cold to the touch. If the high and low are both warm or hot, you have internal problems. If the high is slightly warm and the low just a little cool, you'll need a re-charge. If you need a re-charge, find an HVAC guy who will evacuate the system of the existing R-134A refrigerant and refill it with synthetic since it will run 25% colder.

I am thinking I may change the routing of the AC condensate line into my sump pump. There is available inlets and this has to be better than running it into the bilge?!?!

Absolutely!

My line runs from the condensate pan, aft into the area behind the little plastic soap tray looking "storage shelf" thingy in the mid berth, down into the stowage area under the mid berth cushions on the port side, and then forward to the shower sump pump. I replaced my original line after it clogged a bunch of times and it was a pretty easy job to route it. On a hot humid day my sump is coming on about every 30 minutes, so its keeping a lot of water out of my forward bilge (and keeping wet bilge odor out of my cabin). Highly recommended.

It seems like I could just run a fresh line from the drain pan straight over (perhaps under/around the steps) to the sump pump...wouldnt you agree? I am only saying that because if I am properly following how your line is ran, it makes more curves than needed and could potentially be working against gravity? Is yours done from the factory that way or is that how YOU did it?

Thanks for the input.

I'm the 3rd owner so I don't know if it was installed by the factory, but its the way it was when I bought the boat. Curves in the line aren't bad. Just avoid any u-shaped dips. Going straight down from the raised dinette platform would be the straightest shot, but if my memory serves me there is a stringer in the way. You might be able to inspect before drilling any holes if you take the dinette table pedestal mount out and feel around a bit.

The filter is clean, the high pressure side is hot, and the low pressure side is cold....very hot and very cold is open to debate as I have nothing to comapre it against. Haven't had a chance to measure the air temp out of the vent yet but hopefully I can get to that this weekend.

What is synthetic refrigerant? I'm a refrigeration mechanic by trade and have never heard of this?

The full condensate pan I left from last week was completely dry this weekend. I didn't have time to mess around and try to figure out where the clog was. I did turn the air on once it worked fine. So, my pan is slowly draining and I'll have to tackle this on a little slower weekend sometime.

acguy, I havn't seen synthetic here in Canada but have bought the refill cans in the states at any K-mart. Bought some to fill the wifeys van and it's way colder than 134A. Like anything good, it's probably illegal here in Canada.

Actually it sounds like the stuff at Canadian Tire. That is a propane based refrigerant, not good for people like who use torches on A/C systems. I have never used that stuff. I justed replaced a guys A/C who jammed a can of that into his home ac and busted the valves on his compressor because he over charged it!!

I see you are on Lake Simcoe, I pulled our boat from the slip and am heading the Starport for the week. can't wait to live the upscale life there!!!
