Congrats on doing your own inboard starter, you're lucky you could get at it, some boats have to have the engine lifted out to get at it, if you can believe that. You see the older boats had a lot better engine access than the new and 'improved' ones.

good job. Mine was seized on my 1995 omc 4.3 due to my leaving the plug in once when it rained and I had to remove it... luckily the bolts were not as tight as yours, it came off pretty easy... you have to be a contortionist to do pretty much anything on a boat including pulling winterization drain plugs and hoses... its just all part of the fun I guess... the biggest reach i've had to make so far is getting to the blower motor in the back of my h200... damn... that was a reach...

Just a tip for those reading this with the same problem. I was able to take my starter to a local small motor rebuild shop and they cleaned out the rust and rebuilt it for around 30-40 bucks...
Used it for at least 4 years after that until I sold the boat... worked fine... rust will seize them up but they can be repaired....
