Weather,
Just make sure you have the mechanic check the manifolds and risers if he hasn't already. Even though there may not be water in the engine like I had, your engine will run harder and burn more gas if you have a partially clogged riser or manifold. Mine looked perfect on the outside, but once opened up, you wouldn't believe how clogged and rotted they can get. If imwas to run the engine any longer than I did, I would probably have cracked the block. Might want to check it out. Not sure if it is your problem, but doesn't hurt to check it out.
Best of luck
Chris
I will definitely check that in the spring, thanks for the heads up. I'm surprised that by limiting water flow, the engine runs cool - shouldn't it run hot if water flow is restricted? I fully admit I don't have a good understanding of the water flow in our Volvo, but this does surprise me.
Is removing the manifold and riser to inspect it as easy as it seems? Not having it in front of me ATM I could be wrong but it just seems like some bolts, remove exhaust and out they come? Of course a new gasket would be required on re-install. I might just have to try that myself in the spring.
If you can help me understand how the blocked / clogged manifold and riser caused your engine to run cold I'd appreciate it. My engine will get to operating temp if I'm idling around, but as soon as I get to cruising speed, the port drops back to 135 or so.
Steve.
