I was wondering what the range of props are and which end of the range is geared for top speed and which end is for torque im running the f6 i have gps at about 47 wot

The '05 240 came with F5's and I continue to be happy with them. I've always felt that hull/power combination was borderline between F5 and F6. My WOT is just over 5K RPM @ 48gps. Hole shot is beyond belief.

With the F6 the hole shot is amazing, but i dont think there is a such thing as a bad hull shot if your running the duo prop its like having a cork screw on the back of ur boat. id like to see 50mph out of the boat, i have bottom paint so i sure that does not help :evil:

These are family boats, not hot rods. They're heavy and built for a comfortable ride. If you are able to make 5K RPM at about 48mph, you are at optimal gear/prop ratio.

Exactly. If you want 50mph. trade it in for an H180 with 4.3L V6, and you will get 49.999 mph at WOT.

they shouldnt spec it out at 51mph if it cant do it....im not selling 15 seer equipment with 16 seer labels.

You're telling me I've got to sell my 260 if I want 50mph and get a 180??????

I may not have a "hot rod", but my speedometer reads a hard 60 mph and although it's not gps'd, I leave my my buddy's boat in my wake at wot and he's gps'd at 52mph. Either way, my last boat did 50+ and I think I'm pretty close to 60 give or take a mile either way..... Also, I'm running F5's that came with it and taching about 5200 wot.

A big block'ed boat will surely have a different spec, and a different actual performance number. 60 wouldn't surprise me in a 260 with a big block. A 5.7 in a 240 won't make much over 50, and probably not more than about 48.

A 240 with a 5.7 should hit 5,000-5,200 RPM's. If it's doing that, any other changes the owner chooses to make are experimental.

Boats are spec'd to an RPM number, with the resulting speed being an incidental result of that RPM. Not the other way around, as is more expected in a car.

It seems to me that FW's specs are much closer to reality than many other builders'.

Your boat's top speed is also tested.. empty. A 90lb chick, running on fumes with zero gear in the boat on a cold day with flat water at sea level. Weight slows you down. Once you start adding people, gear, coolers, full tank of gas, etc etc.. you will not get advertised top speed. That's not how it works. If you want more speed loaded up and you're hovering at designed RPM's at WOT, there's only one solution. More Horsepower. Engine rebuild with performance parts (heads, performance marine cam, better carb, intake manifold, more compression) to bring it in the 400 dyno'd hp range and steeper props. You'll get your 50mph full of gear and people, probably 60.

Mike, you are spot on. So many people think they can build an engine like a car and it will go much faster. It won't. I feel I am able to benefit from the thru hull exhaust and see a difference due to the big block and extra HP I have, but on the smaller engines it's just show and no go.

I have hit just shy of 52 mph in my boat...I am running F5's. But that was with me and only things that are bolted to the boat. Once I add the platform I am sure I will only be in the 46 - 48 mph range. But that os fine by me...what is a difference in 2 or mph. It is a very smooth riding, family cruising boat.

Well, you guys have more money then most to afford to go screaming around everywhere at WOT blowing 30 gallons per hour out the prop.

Actually Ric, my new boat is very fuel efficient all things considered. No one goes wot for an hour, or for more than a few seconds or minutes. In comparison to my old H200, I burn maybe 20 or 30% more....plus I get there a LOT faster cruising at pretty close to your wot. Where I boat at, after I launch I ususally travel 30-40 miles to where I stay and play for the day. Plus us "old guys" have better things to worry about than burning gas, like running out of ice for your beer and cocktails!
