Exactly. I've never run WOT for more than perhaps 20 seconds at a time, and only that long a couple of times. Of course, I'm not trying to impress anyone else. We've been known to boat all week long on a single tank of gas.

Actually Ric, my new boat is very fuel efficient all things considered. No one goes wot for an hour, or for more than a few seconds or minutes. In comparison to my old H200, I burn maybe 20 or 30% more....plus I get there a LOT faster cruising at pretty close to your wot. Where I boat at, after I launch I ususally travel 30-40 miles to where I stay and play for the day. Plus us "old guys" have better things to worry about than burning gas, like running out of ice for your beer and cocktails!

I can't wait to be an "old guy"

If you have to ask, you can't afford to play. Sure fuel burn is important, but when it comes down to it, if I feel like cruising at 45-50 rather than 30, I'll do it.

I've always wondered... why the heck don't we have more modern fuel efficient engines available?

Imagine a modern 4 cly like a honda in a boat that makes 160hp. Sure, your cruise rpm would be 4000 not 3100, but still. Instead of my 5-6GPH cruise I would get 2-3GPH. and it would run FOREVERRRR without needing repair, the life of the boat with just oil changes. Is it because companies like VP and MC have contracts with Chevy and that's just the way it is? Why doesn't chevy release more modern engine designs for marine use? Does anyone know if they ever will? You purchase a 2012 60k Four Winns and it has a 1960's engine. Outboard technology is quite amazing today, why can't inboard catch up?

Haha, gross. Not what I meant. I just mean something DOHC and much more efficient. You can get a 2 liter 4cly that makes 160hp/160tq that weighs less then the 130hp 3.0 chevy and gets double the fuel consumption and 100x more reliable. Lighter boat, more hp, less fuel consumption, and an engine that would last 20 years between rebuilds.

Unfortuantly it's not up to the boat builders, it's up to VP or MC. They are perfectly happy with the high ROI on these old crappy pushrod engines. They cost nothing, sell em for 10-20k, and get money every year for the same parts that have been breaking for 20 years with zero plans to make them any better.

Cash, Gas, or Ass no rides for free. I have heard that having your props re worked will make a big difference if you can find someone that knows what they are doing. Im dropping F6's off to Sanderson Marine in Hopewell Va this week

I had my rear f6 re worked this week guy did an amazing job, 3rd time its been rebuilt, good peice of advice if you go to have a prop rebuilt and they say they are going to grind the knicks out walk away, you want someone that is going to weld the missing material back in not decrease the diameter of the prop, Sanderson Marine in Hopewell VA did a great job highly recommended put a reallllllllllly nice cup on it too!

I love this pix. I can hear the sucking sound from the gas tank from here, but I know the feeling of having that big boat run that fast. Nothing better and WELL WORTH the $$$!
