I was in the process of buying a 1996 Horizon 190 with a 5.0 volvo penta FI 220hp engine. I ran into some issues with the used trailer that the marina found for the boat so now we had to go with a new trailer which is a lot more money.

With having to buy a newer trailer it raises the price close to a boat I was looking at in Michigan. That boat is a 1998 Horizon RX with a 4.3 Volvo Penta engine in it. Comes with a full set of covers, Bimini Top, a newer radio and the Four Winns Trailer and snap out carpet. This boat is about a 1000 more in price. Any suggestions on which boat would be better for my family of 5 and our 1st boat? Also, is there anyone near Fenton Michigan that could check the 98 out for me? Thanks Pete

1998 RX hands down. Full fiberglass liner (what you wanted) and 4.3 V6. Pretty much the same power, better fuel consumption, and nicer more modern styling.

In the long run, what's $1000 to get a much better boat. It's my boat with the sunsport interior. You see how good mine treats me, and I keep mine outside in the water.

You could get a 3rd party mechanic to do an inspection that lives in the area. I would google boat shops in the city of where the boat is located and work with the owner to schedule a time.

Honestly the prob with the older model boats is the potential for deck rot.....the full liner deck is the better choice if deck in good shape....still ta it for thud sounds though....and....fw trailers r pretty but not top of the heap...the one r seeing is prob more durable.
