Just bought the above boat used and it has a 23P stainless 3 blade. I have the 300HP 5.7 GI and a Volvo SX drive

*Seems to fall of plane when turning at lower speeds like 18-20 for tubing and this is without pulling a tube yet.
*Holeshot seems somewhat slow(haven't timed it yet)

I can't even find what the specs are for the stock prop so I don't know how this one compares to that.
Does anyone know what the stock prop was?
What are other people running on thier similar equiped boats and how is it working?

thanks
Hodge

The H220 had a 14-3/4" x 19 pitch 3 blade as stock

Four Winns did not offer a 5.7L in the 2008 H200.

it is a H220 thanks for pointing that out. I'll go fix the signature.

So if it came with a 19" and I have a 23" it's likely that I'm over propped.

I've only had the boat out once and it was only getting to 4200rpm but it had a full tank and 4 people so I was going to wait to make the call on max rpm until I tried it slightly less loaded up.

thanks for the quick response and the info.

I run with a 14.75" x 21 SS on my H210 with 5.7 GI/SX. It came with the 14.75 x 19 aluminium, but upgraded to SS last year and bumped the pitch up a little. I'm very happy with it. I can hit 53+ GPS on a good day and the hole shot is more than adequate.

Of course you are, that's bare minimum plane speed for a boat that size and type of hull. Even my H180 with just me in it... my slowest plane cruise is 19mph (GPS) and when turning sharp it will fall off. I'm actually quite amazed yours planes at 18mph, is that actual GPS mph? I would GPS it, probably more like 21-22. Bigger/heavier boats don't plane slower then small ones!

My last boat was a 21 foot sea ray which actually measures longer than this 22 foot 4 winns. Th at 1 would stay on plane around 18 miles per hour before i added smart tabs, after it would stay on plane a.t 15 miles an hour. I never ran that 1 with a full tank so since this 4 winns had a full tank the 1 time I've driven it I was hoping that when I get a little lower on gas it would maintain plane at a little bit lower speed than 22 MPH

I'm about 16-17 on plane for most water stuff. It flutters around 15 mph by GPS. My 18' Maxum would stay planed down to under 14 MPH as long as my cooler was in the front, but it also had about a 45 deg bow-up attitude when you hammered it, where as I can still see over the windshield trying to do wheelies in the FW.

Well, my schedule and the weather finally combined to allow me to take the boat out again. This time I had about 1/2 tank of gas and only 3 people on board. I played around with various trim settings while trying to maintain plane at lower speeds. it seems that this hull likes the drive at neutral trim. Negative trim(trimmed in) made no noticable difference and trimming out made it fall of plane easier in turns. My theory is that trimming out raises the nose a bit. Thus, pushing the afterpods down into the water more, creating more drag.

as for the prop, I still think I am overpropped. My max speed was 46mph(GPS) turning only 3900 rpm. Max should be 5000rpm. It currently has a 23" pitch 3 blade stainless. My main use is for watersports. I often pull two tubes at once and occasionally a wakeboarder. I'm thinking a 4 or 5 blade is best but I'm so far off my max rpm that I'm not sure how much pitch to drop. If 19" 3 blade is stock then the appropriate 4 blade would be an 18" right?
Any input is apreciated.

Thanks

18" sounds right. My boat came with the same 14x19 prop yours was supposed to come with. I'm not interested in top in speed as I do a lot of pulling of tubes and boards, so holeshot and low planing speed was important to me. I switched to an 18" SS 4 bladed prop and couldn't be happier.

Well, I tried a 19" 4 blade Solas RP4. With 1/2 tank of gas, full gear and 3 people I got to 52MPH at 4400 rpm. Since this was still shy of my 4600-5000 WOT rpm range and less passengers than I normally have, I dropped it down to a 17" of the same 4 blade solas RP4. Still hitting 52 MPH but now at 4800 rpm so it's right where I want it to be. I was still able to get 52mph with 5 people and a half tank so that was good too.

I'm very happy with the 4 blade. The boat gets out of the hole quickly and goosing the throttle at about 20-25mph give it an incredible surge. The boat now stays on plane at 20mph, even when pulling a tube, unless turning incredibly sharp but I only need to turn moderately sharp when tubing so it's just what I needed. I also noticed that this prop is maintaining it's grip better in sharp turns. The 3 blade 23" was coming loose a lot in sharp turns. This boat does still seem to ride a bit more "ass down" than my previous boat but that's just me getting use to a new boat I guess. BTW A buddy did try wakeboarding and we got him up no problem. The boat pulled so hard out of the hole that when I tried going full throttle like my previous boat I was just pulling the rope out of his hands so we had to pop him up at like 1/2 throttle.

Hopefully this update will help someone who finds this through a search in the future.

Glad to hear you got it worked out! That boat was (arguably) designed not to need tabs. Now your experience sounds like mine - plenty of power and speed.

Boat on!
