Hi, I have a FW H200 2008 model 4.3 Volvo GXi SX drive bought in 2010. It now has just under 200 hrs on it and I have had it taken care of by my marina that also stores and winterizes it for me. I have the oil changed every year anyway. Plus fuel filters changed. Should I change the anodes every year(fresh water Lake Erie, Niagara River)

They suggest for every two years the following;
Motor tune up,
Outdrive service,
Pull drive and grease joint,
Check motor alignment,
Inspect upper seal of drive for leakage,
Grease motor coupler and output shaft of outdrive,
Replace water impeller
Inspect all strut packing glands for straight board tightness and leakage.


I know you guys do most of this stuff yourselves, but I don't have the time or the know-how. I know its more expensive this way but I'd rather be safe than sorry. Any hints would be appreciated. Thanks

I'd agree with everything except 'strut packing glands' you don't have any, those are only used on straight shaft inboards!

I actually do all that every year, except the Cobra water impellers I usually check and replace if its looking at all worn, they typically last at least 3 seasons. My boat is in salt water so you need to do all the maintenance more often.

How do the anodes look? If they are more than 1/2 deteriorated you should change them. I replace the ones on my boat every season.

I drive my boat 3-4 days a week, and all day saturday/sunday and it lives in the water. This is my maintenance schedule. I do all the work myself so cost is next to nothing. I do NOT like a boat that doesn't run, but yes... it still has it's off days like all boats.

Every week:
-Scrub deck
-Scrub outside hull/outdrive
-Clean vinyl
-Apply 303 UV blocker ( I mostly keep the covers off unless rain is in the forecast, here in FL if you leave covers on it molds up in a heartbeat. 303 is amazing, my 12yo vinyl is still baby soft and looks new)
Every 3 months:
-Engine oil
-Oil filter
-Fuel filter
-can of seafoam in the gas
-waterproof canvas
Every 1 year
-Wires/cap/rotor/plugs
-Impeller
-belts
-anodes
-outdrive service


Most of these things can be done in minutes with basic hand tools, no need to pay a mechanic for the easy stuff.

+1!!! Jeez I thought I was the only one, I live in Miami and I left the regular cover and a tarp I purchased so it wouldn't get any sun on my 220SS and OMG!!! two weeks later the ski locker was nasty and the anchor locker was horrible. I took the top off for two days after I cleaned her off and awesome everything was looking great. I actually solved this problem I purchased a pretty simple 12 volt fan and a small solar panel connected to a motorcycle battery and I put both tops on and no problem with the mold.
