My fresh water pump won't self prime - I've opened all the valves half way and started the pump, as the manual suggests, but no dice. Any idea's how I force it to prime? The tank is full, so I can't check the filter. It did work for one tank, I drained it - perhaps too far, refilled and now it won't prime.

I had the same problem last month. Small plastic housing right next to the pump was clogged.

You should have a shutoff valve between the tank and the filter. Close it, disassemble and clean the inline screen/strainer....I venture to be money this is the problem.

There is no shut off behind the garbage cupboard where the pump is. Perhaps it's next to the tank under the forward berth?

manual states its under the forward berth.

When I had my 298, the tank, shut off valve and pump were all very close to each other...under the V Berth. I am certain you have a valve there.

weather - My fresh water pump shut off valve in our 328 Vista is located about 12" away from the fresh water pump itself. My fresh water pump is located behind the tilt out cabinet door under the galley sink counter top. The shut off valve is behind this same tilt out cabinet door.

Hmm, that is where my pump is as well, but there is no shutoff there. My boat is following a theme - looks like the previous owner removed all shutoffs...I also don't have a shutoff for my fuel lines. I'm hopeful my water shutoff might be under the v-berth.

My marina thought they would do me a favor this spring by cleaning my 2 faucet stainers and fresh water pump strainer. Problem was they did not properly screw the plastic fresh water pump stainer back together and I wondered how the heck I had some water at the front of my galley carpet. I opened up the drawer to look at the fresh water pump to see a little drip coming down and determined the stainer not put back together properly. I had to wonder how I could take the stainer back apart to try and assemble it correctly with the gavity feed of the fresh water tank. That is when I noticed a small shut off valve and it is fairly small in being not a whole lot bigger that the diameter of the fresh water line immediately behind the tilting door. I shut shut off valve off, reassembled stainer and no more leak,thank goodness.

We have a fuel shut off valve for each engine and generator. Either engine can be made to draw fuel from either fuel tank, or both engines drawing from one tank if need be.

Confirmed my boat has no shutoff valve between the tank and the pump. I even removed one of the lower cupboards so I could see where it connects to the tank. One thought I had was removing the hose from the tank, and letting it drain into the bilge. I unscrewed the compression fitting nut, but couldn't pull the hose off. Not wanting to break it I gave up. Anyone have experience removing these hard plastic hoses? Do I need to heat it or something?
Once I figure out how to drain it, I'll need to figure out where to get the proper shutoff.

What type of hose is the stiff clear tubing? The only similar item I could find on the parts list is "POLYETHYLENE #15978", there is no shutoff in the parts list, so likely the boat never came with one. Anyone know where I can buy the shutoff to fit this tubing? Or at least tell me what I'm looking for?

Great fun, as usual...what should be an easy job turned difficult.

When I'm back at our boat this weekend, I'll look to see if there is any identification on the fresh water hose itself going into the fresh water pump. I'll also try and snap a picture of the fresh water shut off valve.......

Found what parts I need. The tubing is FlexPex 1/2". The fittings are called 'Flair-it', there may be other suppliers of the same type of fitting, but this is the one I found:

Now I just need to figure out how to cut the pipe and stem the flow before my floor floods
