The temp portion of the one in my 2006 346 has crapped out. I'll have to pull the boat soon (for a transmission repair) and might as well replace the sensor while it's on the hard.

The unit in there now tends to lose depth readings when the boat is up on plane. No doubt due to placement of the sensor and water turbulence under it when up on plane.

Before I go drilling holes somewhere else, that might have just as much of a problem, I figure it's worth asking around. Anyone moved their depth sensor elsewhere on a similarly sized boat and had better luck?

I didn't get the factory navigation package but had the dealer install a gps/fish/depth finder.

They installed a shoot through the hull transducer. It's in the engine room dead center, about halfway between the bulkhead and the bottom of the hatch lifter. I never lose depth but do get a few stray lines in the fish finder display when on plane.

You mean in the center bilge, along the keel? Mine's in the port side bilge about 1' back from the bulkhead and about 1' from the outside bilge edge. Sounds like you location would be maybe 6" farther astern. But I've not heard anyone putting the transducer along the keel line.

I have already posted that I had mine replaced do to the thermistor portion being bad. It read 300 some degree water temps. I didn't move mine never had a problem when on plane.

There is a test procedure on RM website on how to test the thermistor. FYI.

I can't promise the exact fore and aft dimensions, until I get there Friday. But it is definitely in the center bilge, right on the keel. Remember this is a shoot through transducer, no hole in the hull, just glued to the bottom of the bilge and filled with fluid. Obviously no temp sensor, but does a great job with depth and fish. Looks like this:

Ah, ok then. Yes, I'm considering the use of a shoot-thru for depth as a means to test better locations for it.

My thermistor portion of the x-ducer is also on the fritz. Not something I use much, so I just disabled it in the UI. I'll replace when the actual sonar part gives up...

I believe they are Airmar b26's... or something like that.

I'll try and send a picture of my mounting location this weekend
