I am about to be the proud owner of a 2009 358 Vista. I have been a boater for 20 years with a 23' single Mercruiser IO and now will have a 37' twin Volvo Inboard so there are lots of new things to learn.

I am hoping to find another Vista owner in the area whom I can hire to show me the ropes of my new boat. Doesn't have to be overly technical but a good walk through of all the equipment on the boat, maintenance issues with volvo inboards, driving tips for twins, etc.

Thanks

Hi Eric,

We are in the chicagoland area although we do not have inboards. Where are you slipping your boat? If you are on the lake, there are plenty vista owners around.

The 358 is a beautiful boat. Welcome. Feel free to send me a PM if you have questions

I'm over in Hammond, and a new owner of twin I/O's but I know the systems on a cruiser fairly well.

Welcome to Four Winns. I've been on one 358, and wow. What a boat!

Eric, I own a 298 at Belmont Harbor. I'd be glad to help out any way I can and would LOVE to get a peek at a 358. I've been trying to convince my wife for years we could use 4-5 more feet of boat. And 31st st is indeed beautiful, I'm hoping some of those improvements hit the other harbors. We did just get a very nice floating 6 unit bathroom/shower building, which was long overdue.

I'm not sure how much you know the harbor system but unless you live walking distance to Diversey, I'd pick 31st street if given the choice. The entrance light at Diversey drives me nuts and 31st St is brand spanking new with a ton of amenities.

I will be at Diversey. I live about a mile from there and I trailered a boat there for years. The light is no problem. You just learn the schedule and know when to go out.
31 st is nice and new, but kind of dead since it is less than half full. Just massive expanses of concrete. No character to me. And the simple fact that they need armed security roaming all the time lets you know which neighborhood you are in.

I should be in Div Wednesday. I'll let you know.

On some boards, if you don't change the settings you'll never have any idea you've got a PM....

Being that close to your home harbor is definitely a great benefit. But my guess is those security guards are the same unarmed, yellow shirt wearing guards employed by Westec that are at every harbor. They check people coming in after hours and walk the docks.

I am surprised how empty is it, with all the talk of long waiting lists at other harbors. My guess is there hasn't been a waiting list for any harbor except Dusable and perhaps Burnham for 2-3 years.

When I chatted with the harbor master at the in water boat show, only about 250 slips were taken of the 1,000 available. They were running a few incentives for this year to attract new boaters.

If I lived in the city, I would consider slipping on the lake but not being a Chicago resident adds an additional 25% to the slip fees. It is almost double what we are paying now. I think we will be staying on the river.
