fuel gauge

hi, i am new in this forum, can anyone tells me why my fuel gauges are off by about 1/4 when boat engines are running, when there is just one the gauge seems good.

I have never had this happen, but:
I would check the system voltage with each engine running (one at a time). With an engine charging, voltage should be very close to 13.9 Then with both engines running, the system voltage should still be about 13.9 A bad voltage regulator could allow a higher voltage, and maybe that could throw off the reading?

Also check all ground connections, including the ground going to the fuel tank sender.

I know on my Horizon it is always off by 1/4 if I am underway. Could be just where the gauge sender is.

When a boat is not moving it's flat. When you're underway the boat has some bow rise. Gravity moves the fuel to the back of the fuel tank where the fuel level sender is, causing it to read higher then what it really is.

Would like to hear again from the OP. I think he is saying that that the gage is off when "both" engines are running, and when there is just one [engine running] the gauge seems good.

I assumed in both cases that the boat was not moving. We need to hear more from the OP or this thread is useless.

Think of the gas gauge more like a suggestion. Either your full or it's low and time to fill up. Unless you fly an airplane, your gas gauge is inaccurate in anything you own. The best way to track gas is to do it yourself. Know what you put in and know what the boat burns. My work van (2005 dodge) when the gas needle is exactly on the E line for empty, there's 5 gallons left in the tank. The gas light comes on gauge wise 1/4 tank, actual 1/2 tank. In my Lexus when the gas light comes on it's roughly 5-6ish gallons, or 100 miles.
