Try this link... http://www.mshp.dps.missouri.gov/WP03/A ... M=A157453F

It should be the actual accident report.

This doesn't sound like minor to moderate injuries to me (from the offshoreonly.com website):

Hey guys, I was a passenger in this boat during the accident. Yes, there are many cardinal rules broken. The most important one I feel is no life jackets worn. As crazy as it seems, we had jackets for each person but as the poker run began we realized no one else was wearing them..... How foolish we were. I have read so many nasty comments on YouTube and other sites I am in shock. My wife suffered 4 broken ribs, punctured lung and a broken foot. She has not left the house since getting home. She is in severe pain. The driver crushed his eye orbital and broke hus back at T8 ( he is a former F-2 racer with APBA). Another passenger who raced professionally for many years broke his pelvis in several places and is in a wheelchair. One of the other girls crushed her eye orbital also. The guy from lake tv fractured his hip and broke his wrist. My injuries were minor compared, busted my head open and damaged a rib or two. Everyone is black and blue. This was a very upsetting event for everyone involved. I have been around powerboats for many years and it only takes on unguarded minute to loose a life or permanently hurt people you love. I am very thankful this did not end up worse. I hope everyone learns from this. I know I will boat differently. All of the guys in the boat are members of OSO. I think it is necessary to break down the accident and discuss this, just remember these are real people who like you who love power boating and do it every weekend.

It is unfortunate that the passengers have to suffer from the Captain not taking the proper precautions, however, based on that statement, it seems as though that Captain knew what he was doing and was just taken by surprise. Mother Nature vs Man......Man always loses due to underestimating the situation.

A race boat driver.....really....that means he really should have known better.....like maybe the camera on board made him want to show off. That looked like a miserable ride way before he smacked the wake.....wonder how close he was to other boat when he lost all control of his boat.

That's what scares us the most.

I counted three idiotic mistakes on my lake this weekend. Worst was in the narrower portion of the lake a pontoon cut right across a line of boats going the other direction....even better he was towing two kids on a tube. The 3 boats coming from the other direction all had to to come to a stop to avoid hitting tube. Our lake is directional (you always stay right of bouys).

I have a really hard time believing he has been a race boat drive for 10 years. Also, the girl in the green bikini is the mom of the purple bikini girl . The line about "not wearing life jackets because nobody else was"...if everyone else drove off a cliff :?

The Lake of the Ozarks is absolutely crazy and dangerous on holiday weekends.

The driver seemd to pass out or fall before the actual incident. I was a little surprised to hear the claim that he was a race boat driver, but racing and driving on that lake in heavy trafic have little in common.

I'm not sure how anyone is shocked they didn't have life jackets on. I can't recall a single time I've seen all adults in a large boat wearing jackets. I also don't know many operators that use a safety lanyard like they should...

Yeah !

I've been reading the posts on the Offshoreonly thread.
I won't be boating in LOTO, and I'm going to be even more cautious than I already am
of high speed offshore boats. They are having a hard time figuring out how this happened.
( Too fast for conditions? )
Any Poker Runs I've heard of, life jackets are mandatory.

I thought you win a poker run based on the cards you get, not how fast you get there? Whats the point of going so fast?

I have been reading it too. I think that thread has had 45,000 views and they are worried about a crackdown on boating on that lake (which is nothing but a big river). It is apparently a favorite of theirs and some big ass boats race in that annual Shootout they have over there. I think the guy that won it this year went 192 mph.

I'm guilty too, I have been reading their posts as well. One point that keeps being brought up, is the driver was an APBA racer. Well it may very well be true. My question is what class did he race in ?
Last month we were boating on the inland waterway, and they had the APBA outboard races there. They were a blast to watch, but do not go as fast as that Fountain. If he was an APBA driver of one of these, he had no business driving that boat as fast as he was.

Well, it's a little more than a big river, but I have little doubt that it represents the largest concentration of stupidity in North America. Too bad, because it used to be one of the best and most beautiful lakes anywhere. Of course there are exceptions, but as I've said before, people die so frequently on that lake, it barely makes the local news anymore.

Good seamanship shouldn't be dependent on engine displacement. Frankly, someone saying they're an APBA driver means as much to me as saying they're an SCCA driver. Or saying they're the smartest woman in the trailer park.

Don't mean to highjack but those are great pictures Cap'n Morgan, brings back memories of my youth running that circuit in Minnesota. I ran a 16' pickle fork with a 115hp BP Merc.
Now back to the regulary scheduled discussion.
