Thanks Steve,

Quick question regarding boat insurance.

Most people have recommended Club Marine to me but most mechanics have recommended Nautilus. It seems Club Marine do a good job of providing information and sending out a magazine etc... but take a long time to clear their warranty. Several mechanics have said Nautilus approves almost straight away. Any thoughts on either Club Marine or Nautilus? Maybe it doesn't matter either way? The policies are quite comparable.

I am with RACV for my car but I'm not sure if I want to be with them for my boat since it is a more specialised field that they don't advertise well.

Thanks,
Matt

Hi Matt,

I have had boats for about 13 years. I have been with others, but in the end went back to Club Marine. Nautilus were a bit more expensive. 50/50 I suppose with policies.
I have not had to make a claim (touch wood) yet. So its a personal decision. Most use Club Marine that I know.

Steve

Gidday Matt
I have had insurance with Club Marine since I bought the boat new in January 2009. I had to make a claim last year when a Gum tree branch fell on the boat during a storm and smashed the windscreen to bits. The company that I bought the boat from were Club Marine dealers so the assessment and claim was all done through them. The only issue was waiting for around 6 weeks for a replacement windscreen to come from the States. Apart from that, it all went really smoothly.
Hope this helps

Thanks Ardy. The dealer uses Nautilus and he says he has the authority to do $5,000 worth of repairs on a boat without having to consult them so I am inclined to go with them just because it is easier. Touch wood, or faux woodgrain in my boat, that it doesn't have to happen. Really appreciating all the advice. This is all new to me, my first ever major purchase, and obviously just wanting things to go well. Thanks again and have a great week, Matt

I've used both, but never had to make a claim. Nautilus is comprised of ex-Club Marine people and I have been with them since the early days. They were considerably cheaper at the time to Club Marine and you were not forced to subscribe to their magazine for $40 per year. Since then, Club Marine have become much more competitive in price in an effort to win back market share - amazing what a bit of competition does isn't it?

I'm still with Nautilus and will be until I have a reason to change. I get a discount by selecting a 4 month layup period over winter.

Thanks Alec, I will go with Nautilus by the looks of things and also opt for the 4 month lay up period. I've got a good friend with Club Marine so I can borrow his magazine. Will keep in touch.

Hi Matt.
I'm also new this year. You can pull in just about anywhere along that coast and get a feed. Fuel is available at Martha Cove Marina at Safety Beach. Nice run from Portsea but have your chart as there are a few shallow spots at low tide up around Sorrento / Rosebud area.

Come on summer

Cheers

Graham

I am hoping my new swim platform gets shipped in this week. Look forward to installing it before summer...

Have put the boat out twice now and have many more trips planned soon.

Two Sundays ago we went out in Nagambie up the Goulburn to the wineries (Tahbilk and Mitchelton). Moored right outside their cellar doors.

Last Saturday did a big cruise across Lake Eildon from Bonnie Doon to Jamieson Brewery. Took much longer than I had naively thought. Takes about 2 hours each way cruising around 30 knots but well worth the trip for lunch and a few beers. We all got a tasting plate, then picked our favourites and got some take aways for the long trip back to the ramp. Fantastic! And you could see snow capped Mt Buller in the distance as you boated along.

Finally got my feet wet> The water ski season is officially open.
We left home at 540 am heading to Murray Bridge, and periodically checked the outside temp while we were traveling. Leaving home it was 11c, I thought, no too bad by 7am (eta) it should be a little warmer. On arrival at the boat ramp it was 5.5 c. We all had a ski and wakeboard, followed by morning tea at the bakery at Murray Bridge. As usual a fun morning. This is the only pic I have of a friend wakeboarding
