Saturday afternoon I pulled into the slip and started lining up things to prepare for winterization of the boat. The first thing I wanted to do was put Marine formula Stabil in the fuel to begin working it through the system. I have about a half tank of fuel on board so I guess around 40 gallons and put in the appropriate amount of Stabil. I don't know if this is related or not but while out on a tour of the lake and idling through a cove I began to get a beeping that came from the helm but could not see anything amiss on the gauges. I tried to throttle up but the engine would not go over 2000 RPM so the engine was in the protection mode. I went back to neutral and throttled up again with no problem and got full RPM.

I of course was on high alert the remainder of the weekend and seemed to have several instances of a miss or rough running. I might add I have never had this in the time I've owned this boat. Do you think this might be related to adding the Stabil or just a coincidence? Not sure what to do next.

Mine ran rough and would overheat past 3k rpms. The fuel/water separator was full of water.

I've been using Marine Sta-Bil for two years with no issues.

I always put the Sta-Bil in before I fill up, so far I have actually noticed an improvement in cold starts and re-starts after drifting for a few hours. Fuel filter, or like ric said (seperator) would be my starting point.

Sta-bil user for 18 years. Never an issue with causing engine running problems.

It even says on the bottle that using too much won't hurt anything. :)

I dont know the correlation but I added Marine Sta-bil to my last boats gas tank at full dose (whatever the label states) and it ran like total crap until I burnt the gas out of it. Never used it in that specific boat again.

I think rough engine is not good .It may cause very serous problem . Recently I saw a old, fully rigged ship photo, and the ship portrays an old ship, I'm sure before mechanical pumps, and there is water squirting out the side. I am confused about it after read that information about it .There for i need you help about it .

+1 for regular use of Marine Stabil with no problems. I use it with every fill-up. I have not had any problems.
