Very good. My last boat was a Chaparral 197 cuddy. I used it for over 18 years ('93 to '12).

ig project? I've done worse. Costly? Kinda, but the payoff is amazing. 4-8 hours of AC/heat on battery, unlimited AC with engine running and self charging. No shore power/genset/charger needed. Fully USCG legal. I have no idea why more people don't install this way.

I really like this setup! We have found that anchoring out we rarely need the A/C because of the cooling effect of the lake, but a smaller inland lake in Florida might be different. We haven't run ours for 4-8 hrs yet, but we do run it off the inverter for a while to cool the cabin before we go to bed. After the cabin is cooled down we shut the A/c off and run the "house fan" only off the inverter.

If you plan to run the A/c a lot I would consider a bigger alternator and something like a 40amp+ smart charger. Those golf cart batteries take a while to charge once they get depleated. Considering the size of your cabin/ Ac unit it should cool down pretty quickly and you should be able to run at a low duty cycle to keep your batteries longer.

I don't know alpine. I hear great things about their head units.

Cushions are at the upholstery shop

I have 2 12" Alpine type R's in a custom plexiglass truck box my truck with 2 10" Alpine type R's in the doors and 2 Pioneer 6x9's with 2 1000 watt Kenwood amps and a Kenwood head unit forceing sound. I sounded real good up until I pushed the rear window out at the seals.

Alpine marine is great... Just had my 2011 Diesel F250 get trashed by a hail storm today... :( only 23k miles on her... At least my boat was in a garage and my wifes new car wasn't in town, so that's a plus...

Not a lot of updates really, just been enjoying the boat.

I ordered any little bits I might need for the initial A/C install like battery boxes, waterproof 5-15p plug, battery shut off, good hose clamps. I have a good local store for marine cable and ends to make the battery wires. It's starting to get really hot here so it's time to install by next week.

As far as onboard chargers go....

Since I have two 6v batteries wired in series, I would need a single bank 12v charger right? Connect positive to positive on one battery, and negative to the other batteries negative? Anyone know of a cheap priced onboard 15-20a single bank? onboard charger?

Crunching some numbers, I could get away with this for charging:

http://www.marinco.com/product/20-amp-d ... 2v-systems

Yup I think it will be awesome. If the vsr reads over 13.7 volts it sends 10 amps to the house bank. If its under (engine off) it doesn't and the house bank won't drain the starting bank. Its also a standard 20a charger that charges both banks when on 120v.

Is it perfect? No. But when I'm not using air con when the engine is running it charges the batteries and of course it charges when at shore. 10a on a 225a bank isn't a lot but having something charge when running is awesome. On a drained bank it would take 12hr to charge (overnight) but if I run the engine for 2 hours it gives me a boost of 1-2 hours more of AC.

My main goal would be a second alt but I can't get a quote yet for custom brackets. That would fully charge a dead bank in 2 hours for 8 hours of ac and still charge when AC/engine is running.

TX - Yeah, got it back in 5 days... Pretty amazing.. the guys did paintless repair on every ding.. can't tell there was ever a ding.. I couldn't believe they got them all out.. Then of course I went and bought some 35" inch tires to make myself feel better!!!! Insurance paid for it all, except deductible.. Wasn't as bad as I thought.. Of course it did ruin me selling my boat that day.. But here in texas you never know what the storm is going to bring!!

Are you sure you don't just want to use a Honda or Yamaha 1000w generator?

He already has 1000 watt inverter and large battery bank, and since most of Ric's outings are 1 day or 1 night, he could do most of his recharging from shore power.

I don't have good access to shore power. I have to recharge by the engine mostly. A 120a alternator will give me 15 charging amps when the A/C and engine is running, and nearly 70 charging amps when the A/c is off and engine running.

My father has access to larger 6v batteries. He thinks he has two new 1000 amp hours for me. That's 12 straight hours of A/C never cycling off.
