I'm thinking its the other way 'round, I know when I switched from straight 30 to straight 40 mine went up a bit. I used to get cold idle 40 with both but hot idle was a bit higher with the 40. Sometimes corrosion on the terminal for the sending unit can make electric gauges give incorrect readings. The sending units operate on resistance and corrosion on the terminals are kind of un-anticipated resistance, LOL.... The 85 is high, I think the highest I ever saw on mine was about 65 or so.
