Looking for some help here. I have a 2008 V258 and the motor has 150 hours on it. I took it out and for some reason, oil pressure seems high on gauge. Idling at 55 and give it gas and it pegs out at 85. I don't recall it every being this high in years past. I had a manually checked becuase I know sometimes gauges lose their way. Low end is 55 and high is 85. Is this normal for this kind of boat and engine?

I did just have the oil changed after the fact but concerned and do not want to cause damage.

Thanks
D.C. boater

For your oil change, did you use the same oil? Sometimes switching to a "lighter" weight (thinner) oil will cause oil pressure to rise.

I'm thinking its the other way 'round, I know when I switched from straight 30 to straight 40 mine went up a bit. I used to get cold idle 40 with both but hot idle was a bit higher with the 40. Sometimes corrosion on the terminal for the sending unit can make electric gauges give incorrect readings. The sending units operate on resistance and corrosion on the terminals are kind of un-anticipated resistance, LOL....
The 85 is high, I think the highest I ever saw on mine was about 65 or so.

The 4.3l engines in my 278 Vista do the same thing.... until the engines get a good long run across the lake. Then I get 20psi hot idle oil pressure and 50-60psi or so on plane. But the first time I get on plane every time, the oil gauges peg at 80. I use 15w-40 Mobil Delvac FWIW.
