We stopped in at Dockside for a quick lunch and had some delicious, deep fried foods!

A cold day stop at Shorts Brewery in Bellaire. Delicious food and brews!

After a long, cold, and rainy day we got to watch a beautiful sunset from DeWitt's on Clam Lake.

If it werent so windy that day, we would have loved to watch that sunset on Torch. My wife is trying to get me to agree to take another trip up there this year. She wants to go next weekend, but I just cant see going with kids starting school and so much going on at work! DAMN, why cant work and school only happen in cold months??

Low 70's is considered bath water  Great pics of your trip ! We are going to Torch Lake this Friday for the day, and GTB for Saturday.
Two seasons ago, we went to Torch after labor Day. We were the only boat on the sand bar(Monday) and water was 71 degrees air temp was 75 degrees. Perfect.

Sunrise on Torch Lake is also very nice.

On Saturday, we went to Sandy Neck on Cape Cod Bay. These are the flats at low tide. It's a 11' tide, so this was under 5-6' of water within a few hours.

On Sunday we headed over to Crowe's Pasture in Dennis on Cape Cod Bay and rafted with a buddy of mine. 7 kids out there with us in total and they had a blast jumping around on the tube in the flats at low tide. Once the tide came in, vehicles had to exit and we had miles of beach to ourselves.

Haha, Cap'n is right. 70's is bathwater up there.
You'll love Charlevoix. Besides lake Charlevoix you have GTB, Manitou Islands, Beaver island, LTB, and even Mackinac within cruising distance. So long as the big lake cooperates.
I've made the trip down to Traverse City twice this year and we may go again this weekend if the weather is nice.

Traverse would be really nice too! Any idea of what the distance by water will be if I went from Traverse to charlevoix? I have heard that the big lake can kick up and I so far, have only experienced some 3 and 4's on Lake Erie. Although, people around here will say that the 3-4's on Erie are more fierce than the other lakes due to the shallow water.

I'll look for you at Power Island Saturday afternoon, if you can make it.

Hutch, Bliss 36 did it, here is a cut and paste from his blog.
Quote:
We waved goodbye to our new favorite place, Charlevoix, for new adventures on Monday afternoon! We had an approx 45 mile journey to Traverse City planned, with waves predicted to be around 2 feet. As usual, as we headed out, the water was pretty rough. Inside Grand Traverse bay, we took the speed down to about 8 mph to give ourselves a break from the pounding waves. The whole trip took us about 3 hours, and we were happy for a few days on land.

I plan for 2+ hours for the trip and have always made it in less then that. We made it in an hour and twenty earlier this year with glass calm water all the way. The second trip wasn't so lucky. Wind kept changing direction on us and we found some 6-8 footers in the mouth of the bay. If that happens you can usually hug one shoreline or the other for shelter all the way down. Or if it gets too rough for you there is always Northport or Sutton's bay to duck into. (Northport has a great new brewery  )I always try and travel early morning because that is usually the calmest time.

Cap'n,
First beer is on me if we make it there.

what a weekend that started Friday @ 5:15... 10 friends came into town along with another boat.. (some of y'all will remember the paint job disaster Full Wrap insurance recovery fix.

Image

Well Friday night started with drinks at my house as people trickled in between 5:15 and 7:20. then a 2 mile drive up the road to the authentic Mexican restaurant. i know it is great Mexican because this is where all of the Mexicans with their families eat.. non of the american BS Mexican. This is the YUM Yum good food..

later we had 2 more cars in the driveway. and the Wife's Lexus is beside the garage behind the FW in the grass where it cannot get scratched.

this is what chicken and steak tacos are supposed to look like. Big ass XX
Image

Home to party the rest of the night until around 130am. beer pong in the garage and pool int he house.
Image

up at 8am to cook 2 dozen eggs scrambled and a half a loaf of bread. fuel up the belly. toss on the swimmies and ROLLL.
Top off the fuel tanks and grab emergency beer (JUST IN CASE)

nice 7 mile cruise to the sand bar. I raked the entire beach and the group spent 5 min and cleared all of the rocks. build a new fire pit. Fired up some coals to roast fresh local corn on the cob 12 ears.

Lots of fun..

Image

Image

this picture illustrates how deep the left side int he cove is for the boats and the bar goes out 150 years or so. Makes for a great 40' visibility clear water sandy bottom swimming and chilling while floating or sitting on the bottom with water to your chest 2' deep. this is our new spot that we have named "the sand bar" we had complete control of it all weekend. i thing it stays private because most people do not know how to navigate to get back to the cove. the cove is 68' deep in the deepest spot that i have found on the depth finder. and the cove side droops straight off. i could have my drive all the way down as it sits in this picture and not hit the bottom. my 3 step ladder is all the way down.

Image

this guy was doing low lake fly buys again this weekend.. though we did not see him drag his wheels this time..

Image

Grilled up a mess of chicken at the house and continued the party until (last i looked at a clock it was chotz in the kitchen around 12 i did not have a watch on)

Image

Sunday pre boat brunch at an amazing samwich brunch spot that the wife and i habitually ate at on sundays in college and in the past 3 years fell off of the band wagon but have decided to make it back on the tradition list for at least once a month. All in house made rolls and cressonts and breads. sliced in front of you meats, amazing deli.

Cruising

Great weekend coming to an end packing up

Now i am at work..

I like her style...you should obey your wife Hutch  It's that time of year when you feel the creep of fall coming and you want to squeeze in as many boat trips as possible. Dana called me at work today to tell me she had already called and found space at marina's in Saugatuck and South Haven for this weekend so I had 10 minutes to decide and call her back. Guess I won't be installing the rest of my windows like I had planned this weekend.

With all this northern Michigan talk I'm starting to think we should have a ifourwinns rendezvous in the Traverse City/Charlevoix area next summer. If there's any interest we can start another thread and start planning

I'm up for that. I was thinking the same thing earlier this year when I saw a group of FWs from Canada in Charlevoix. Would be fun to make a group trip.

Took a trip to Lake Cumberland last week. Didn't take our boat, tagged along with our friends on the Formula 400ss. Had blast. The houseboat capital of the U.S. We vaguely knew someone down there, who had just acquired a new to him one that was a 21' x 105' triple decker.. Beautiful/stunning boat.. Average depth of the lake is 90+, but we saw a whole lot of 130+.. We arrived on Wednesday evening, and left on Sunday before the rain.. Spectacular lake, and we'll definitely be dragging the 328v down there at some point in the next couple of years..
