Barely...and it's only because I went back to my boat when another round of shots came out! Beautiful night and weekend though. The short run down the lake to Skull Cove at sunset to meet you guys will go down as a ride to remember. Smooth lake all to ourselves at that time. Awesome! Put on ice and water after we left and hooked up with another group who were in Skull for the afternoon. Didn't get home until late Sunday.

Yea, we went just down the way a little bit from skull, and hooked up with fellow dock mates for the afternoon. Got home early evening..

I haven't posted on here for a while, so I figured now would be a good time to dump some of my boating pics from the past few weeks. These are all from Lake Winnipesaukee, NH.

This summer we took an amazing 16 day trip on the Trent-Severn. Day 1 began in Oakville and was a 75 mile run down the shoreline to Cobourg - the next day we entered the Murry Canal, which is the official entrance to the Trent-Severn system. We completed 42 locks in total, traveling 347 miles, clocking 37 hours of engine time while burning through ~325 gallons of fuel. We had the boat trucked home from Port Severn back to Oakville. Here a few (too many) pictures from the trip. We spent our nights on lock walls, most of which do not have power and sometimes in marinas. We also took a 2 day 'vacation from our vacation' and stayed at a cottage resort on Stony Lake.

The kids operating the modernized lock, which is electrically operated w/hydraulic cylinders.

Locks 11 and 12 are a flight lock (48' lift)

Image

The family holding the lines as the lock fills.

Image

Peterborough Lift Lock - Very cool design, this is the highest hydraulic boat lift in the world (65' lift). Basically 2 large bath tubs on hydraulic rams.

Image

Loaded up for all kinds of fun - riding 1" above the bottom paint!

Beautiful still morning

Image

Alone on the lock wall for the night

Image

Tightest fit yet - 1/4" on one side and 3/8" on the other at the stern, with no fenders back there.

Image

Some of the locks still let the kids open and close the lock doors.

Image

Best place to stop on the entire system. Particularly after a very rough Simcoe crossing. The Waubic Inn, boat access only. Stop there if you are ever in the Trent, north of Lake Simcoe.

Final night at Starport Marina (upper) in Port Severn. Crazy good service at this place.

Glad you enjoyed Starport Severn. We stayed in that exact same slip this summer. We have privileges there as we are members are Starport Simcoe. I gather by your comments that Lake Simcoe was a little rough for you? Both of our vacations this year when we left Simcoe was kicking up 4' chop for us, although we don't have far to travel on simcoe until we get to the narrows

Cool Trip weather - Looks like a lot of fun, maybe when I retire I can con the wife into exploring it.

Yep, Simcoe was not great when we crossed - 4-5' and very confused. We were the only boat out there until we hit the narrows where it was nice and calm. There had been a wind warning for days and when we woke up that morning the gov website had taken the warning off the lake and the buoy was showing a constant .2m swell - no idea where that buoy is, maybe in a bath tub? In any case, there was nothing but white caps for as far as we could see and it was pouring rain. Something must have messed up with the gov website since after we crossed, the warning was back on. Water came over the bow constantly and the wind blew it up under where the canvas attaches to the windshield so we were rewarded with wet carpets as well. The day ended at Waubic Inn where they offered to dry our towels that had gotten wet - the perfect warm and cozy end to a long (9hr) and wet day. We actually met a bunch of Simcoe Starport folks at the Waubic, they were headed for a rendezvous a little further north. Mark (Starport GM, pretty sure that was his name), his wife and kids were there and we had a great evening.

That slip at Starport was perfect, the kids could run free and play right behind the boat.

Part way through the trip my wife starting to think she might be up for the Great Loop - that's what I want to do when I retire, or ideally before. Need a much larger boat however...the 328 got pretty small with 4 of us in bad weather.

That ride was definitely one of the highlights of the trip. Just look on YouTube for Big Chute Marine Railway and you will find plenty of videos.

There are straps/slings that support the boats and keep the running gear up off the platform. Most boats are allowed to rest on the platform at least partially. Watch some videos on youtube. You will see that smaller runabouts have the stern lifted by straps and the bow rests on the platform.

I've never been to or on the big chute. I assume the platform is wood.

Yes the platform is wood. you need to tilt the drives up once on the cradle. That cradle has been running sine 1978/79. the original is still in place beside it but is no longer in working order. it is all electric and hydraulic. the are rubber ballast that come out if they have to transport a wooden boat. I have never seen them to a sail boat with a keel but apparently it can be done as you seethem travelling the system. it really sucks when they have a brake down boats pile up quickly with basically no where to wait except float in the basin, very littl wall space to tie up there.
