The problems with the shower sump and sink drains on the V358 are rather interesting in that it seems Four Winns went backwards with this design. On my 2004 378 Vista, the galley, head and cockpit sinks all drain overboard with each having their own thru-hulls.

The shower sump circuit breaker questions are a moot point as the shower sump breaker doesn't have a wire on the back at all. It is paired with the forward bilge pump breaker, so both the forward bilge pump and the shower sump operate automatically all the time or can be turned on manually when the breaker is thrown. I don't know where the shower sump and the forward bilge pump are located in the V358, but in the 378, they are about 6 inches apart under an access hatch in the cabin floor that also has the generator and a/c strainers and sea cocks.

The 348/358 has two areas in the cabin with pumps. There's the shower sump right in the middle of the cabin sole (floor) at the base of the companionway steps. The second one is underneath the center of the mid cabin seating. That one has the cabin bilge pump along with the genset and AC seacocks and strainers.

If I had to guess it's designed this way to accommodate plumbing in a grey water system. Lots of lakes totally prohibit ANY discharge. Everything has to go into a gray water tank (separate from the black water tank). On the 348 that tank fits under the starboard seating in the mid cabin. I don't have that option, nor is it required in the Chesapeake. I don't have a macerator either, and the use of those IS prohibited in the Bay, FWIW.

Good point about the gray water systems. I had the macerator and overboard discharge (but no gray water tank) installed when I bought the boat, but the overboard discharge is wired shut and has never been used. I thought that I might go off shore someday, but that hasn't happened yet. According to the 378 locator drawing, the gray water tank on a 378 fits in an open area above the keel right under the air-conditioner so all the plumbing is in the same general midships area. Accomodating it would be fairly easy with just a few hoses to be re-routed.

Well, I just locked in my splash date so I decided it was time to start waking this thread up. She'll go in the week of April 20 and I'll make the enormous 1/4 mile trip from the boatyard to my marina on Friday the 24th.

-She'll get a full wax & detail by a pro while on the hard - I'm going with Collinite and will report back.

-The group 27 cranking batteries that she was delivered with are being replace with the appropriate group 31's per Four Winns - cranking for each engine and the bow thruster, deep-cycle for the house and I will be adding a second house battery per all of the earlier discussion on this thread - I'll be sure to post photos of the install (I believe I have identified a spot that will work).

-I have ordered and will be replacing the bow thruster prop. It was missing a blade when I pulled the boat in the fall - a stick probably got jammed in it.

-I will be ordering a thru-hull fitting for the galley sink overboard discharge. I may do that project once the boat's in the slip and will document it since there has been much discussion about it here.

-I have to order and replace some striping tape above the waterline. The slings snagged it when the boat was pulled. A friend tells me I'll never notice that it's a fix.

Separate from the usual commissioning items, I believe that's most of my list. Time to start plotting some trips!

Who's next with what and when???

We are putting in The 23rd of April.

We will be changing all the battery's also. Plus I will be doing all the washing and waxing the week before. Also I want to see if we can put some sound proofing in the A/C compartment. For some reason. When the A/C is on it seems loud in the cabin. Does any one else think that. Other then that we are ready for another season. We can say now it will be next month for boating. Just around the corner.

I haven't found it to be too loud - and I've always been happy that the handler is where it is as opposed to under the settee or worse, the forward berth, as it is in many cruisers. That said, there's plenty of space in there for some sound dampening material. You can find Sonex sound absorption tiles on eBay which could do the trick.

That's what I was thinking. It may be just me. But it seems louder then in our 268.

Eh, the AC isn't all that loud. The genset, however...

There is some room for some sound deadening inside the cabinet where the AC unit is located, but not a lot.

This is where I find the carpeting works wonders for absorbing noise.

That makes no sense. Our Gen is not that bad you hardly hear it all up top. Down in the cabin it is not that bad. That does not bother my wife. She does like the A/C nose. I mean its not bad but we are going to try to make it better. I have to check our A/C see if it has rubber between the unit and floor. I think that would help. It does make a difference with carpet in. You can tell when we have it out.

We are re-painting the bottom with Petitt paint. I am having her detailed stem to stern and once splashed, mid March I will be calling the mechanics to fix the shower sump which stopped working the end of last season. I am also going to price having the valley sink drain reroutes as well as adding a raw water wash down. We stand in mid alot and it tracks all over the deck. Can't wait to start boating again.

Welcome back! Are you talking about the foredeck or the swim platform for the raw water wash down? When do you guys splash?

I take it you meant she doesn't like he AC noise.

I went aboard another 358 and listened to his genset, it's just as loud. There's a droning sort of noise it makes, more like it's vibration being transferred through the hull than anything else. The AC compressor does have a kick-in noise but when it's working it's about the same as a typical window unit. Go figure, everyone's got their own tolerance levels I guess.

As for the washdown comment, I put one inside the round anchor locker hatch. I cut the hatch and dropped a round, recessed Jabso coiled hose unit in there. I then tapped off the cold water line from the fresh water tank under the forward berth. We really only use it to wash down the anchor rode when retrieving it. It takes between 2 and 3 gallons typically. Not enough to cause worry about running out of fresh water. I figured this out by timing how long it took to wash down the anchor and then doing it again while emptying the hose into a bucket. Had it been more than, say, 5 gallons, I'd have looked into rigging up a raw water setup. That gets a lot more complicated and expensive.

I am thinking more like swim platform for the raw water wash down. The virtually useless aft storage locker would be a perfect spot to accompdate the hose and spigot. We likely will splash mid month perhaps third week of March.

I don't find the genset to be noisy at all. And the quiet hum of the a/c unit is rather pleasing especially when it gets like an ice box down there at night. Great snuggling weather.

How could I forget? I bought a dinghy and I'm having a custom davit system installed that should be pretty cool. The boat needs to be in the water so we can take some precise measurements from the swim platform to the waterline. I'll document this whole process as well.

We're heading down to the dealer today to close on our new (2008) V358...I'm looking to splash by April 15th, but will find out today how that looks. Dealer has a number of things he's going to do for us...add the name and hailing port, install the back rail, install davit system, having him remove the shelf in the back transom so I can store my dingy motor, few other punch list items.

Needless to say, after the snow this past week (along with a forecast of Sunny and 60 for today) I've had it with winter and NEED to get on the water soon.
