This weekend turned out to be an expensive one. I replaced all of my lead acid batteries with West Marine AGMs. While I was exchanging the old acid batteries out, I removed the battery tray to remove the old straps. Low and behold, the stainless steel screws that hold down the tray were eaten away. Does anyone know if this is a galvonic issue or simply the old leaking lead acid batteries (over time) that caused the bolts to be eaten? Any help would be appreciated. I cleaned up the area were the old batteries were located and installed the new batteries and tie down straps.

Thank you,

sounds like good old acid rot. You shouldn't have galvanic corrosion going into fiberglass since it's not in contact with another metal or anything conductive.

Thank you for the reply. I was thinking that the acid caused the issue but wasn't quite sure.
